Ok, I read all the warnings about double posting and I did post a similar question in the other thread, but nobody answered me there so I'll try here.

Anyone have any settings for the Mini to get in the ball park or Petrucci's 2C+ type lead tones? Just wondering how close it can get and what people are using to try to get close. I have an EBMM JP12 BFR, so all I need is some good settings for the Mini, and about 400 times the talent I have now, and I will be set.

Now, just so this thread ISN'T a double post, I'll add a poll. Who is prettier: Julie Bowen or Sofia Vergara? Answer to follow after I get my 2C+ settings.

+1

The rec has a midrange grind that gives it a completely different character from the Mark. If one could reproduce the other, they wouldn't make both.

Having written that, a BB Preamp may get you closer with the Mini Rec (I use a BB with mine to smooth it out). Not exactly the same, but serviceable.

You have an apple but want to know how to make it taste like an orange.
Just buy the damn orange.

Very true. I had a Roadster that simply would NOT give me the sound I was looking for, no matter what I tried-boost the front end, EQ in the loop, etc. Bought a Mark V, and there it was.

As already stated, a recto isn't going to sound like a Mark, they are complete opposites. Find a used Mark IV and you're instantly there.

Ok, i have never played a. Mark. We all know recorded tones can be deceiving compared to both amps in a room a/b shootout.

I actually had a tone in vintage/10watt mode that I thought was getting close.

Like everyone else, I'll tell you that it's really just not possible. But if you want to try, start with the vintage mode, and throw in a boost pedal and some compression (before the amp) and EQ (in the loop) to taste and you can coax pretty good lead tones out of a rectifier, they just won't sound like a mark.

And to answer your second question, Julie Bowen, hands down. Sofia's got some great curves and assets, but I'd take Julie any day of the week.

Apples and oranges, again.
...no, scratch that. Apples and watermelons.

yeah, Sofia has all the flashy stuff that makes you go WOW. Big eyes, big lips, big curves, and she is certainly smoking hot. But Julie is more the "perfect" kind of pretty. The more you look at her, the prettier she gets.

So, Julie for the win, and "No 2C+ tones for you!" Ok, I'm 1 for 2.

Do LOVE some of the tones I'm getting with Vintage, 10 watt, boost, comp, and I will throw that MXR 10 band in the loop and see if I can get it even better. Even if not, I'm loving what I have, which is always nice.
