My Solo 3 is making a metalilc ringing noise on channel two and thee when i chug on the open e sting. I mute the strings and it rings back loudly. I replaced all the power tubes and it still does it. Pretty sure is a pre amp tube problem but im not sure because it only does it on my Ibanez Prestige bridge pick up. But not on my ESP with EMGs. I orderd new pre amp tubes for my V1 and V2 slots but who knowes if that will fix it. Has any one ever experienced this problem?

Thanks Jace

tap the tubes with a pencil and eraser or some sort to find the culprit with amp on/standby off. (play mode) Its probably one pre that has gone microphonic.

Welcome to The Board.

Normally, a metallic ringing noise is a sure sign of a microphonic pre-amp tube that is easily found with the pencil tap test (tap each 12AX7 with a pencil while the amp is on, out of standby, nothing but speakers hooked up).

But.....

You mention it only happens with one of your guitars. If the guitar that brings out this ringing noise has a floating trem, I would suspect the trem springs. Stuff the spring cavity with tissues to deaden the springs from ringing like a reverb tank. If the problem goes away you found the source of the noise.

The tissue is just a temp fix. For a permenent fix, slide some closely fitting heat shrink over the springs, but do not shrink it or it will change the feel of the trem. You just want to deaden the ringing of the trem springs.

Good Luck,
Dom
