So, I took some time today to try out the Slave out on my Mark III to get some pure Direct Out recording tones. The only other time I had done it was to a board before I realized I needed a cab impulse and obviously it sounded like crap.
So here's the first tone: with a V30/Mesa impulse going for a heavy Soldano type tone doing kinda a noodly Van Halen type rock out.

It took awhile to wrangle in the tone I wanted. The Slave out tone is -very- pure and you can scupt it any way you want, so I figured I should throw it in a mix. It took awhile to get the "blanket over the cab" tone off, but yet again, in a mix that can also help, so I switched to the clean and R2 channel and threw this jam on!

Again, just kinda noodling, but I really like using the Slave out + impulses (although it does take forever to find which impulse you like!) because it does come out sooo cleanly. Opinions?
