Is this what you are thinking of for a cab?

I wouldn't mind to have this:

To me, if they offer a 90 day warranty, that means they prob test there stuff out and make sure it is in good working condition, otherwise they would lose money! But, you are right, you can't find that type of warranty for used gear on ebay...

No not that one, I dont think that is the one that you want!

Oh yeah mine I have no idea whether it is an A or B. I've never checked the serial number on it but I don't care! It sounds perfect!
.... so how do you check the serials?

sounds like you wants the cab for yourself!

You can just call Mesa (707-778-6565) and ask them to look up when the amp was made by giving them the serial number. If it's made b/w 89 and 93/94 its an A, anything newer than 94 is a B. disassembled mentioned that you can look at the effects loop and if it is a mono loop then it is an A regardless of what year it is made... But I don't think the difference is overly noticable...

Well, I've got an A!

As for that cab, yeah I'm watching it but I highly doubt I will go for it, as there are a number of things to get in my way:

1) I am cheap, I will probably pinch a penny and not go for it.
2) It still has 6 days left to go, I doubt I will remember to bid on it.
3) I am not too big on paying $100 for shipping because that will inhibit my max bid.

Oh well, I might remember, I might not. I would like to get a nice condition half-back 2x12 with the BS and EV though.

But man, you are going to love that setup. I personally have a G&L Rampage wired with a D-Sonic and an Air Norton and it sounds surprisingly close to my buddy's JP6 (Pearl Redburst OooOOo!) and I have to say with that combo the Petrucci sound is sooo close. Just setup some wet delays, maybe a little reverb and bam, that is the sound. Like I said, you are going to love it!

Hey, I just bought this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110136595318

I couldn't resist! It will match my Mark IV perfect!

I just tracked the head and it is supposed to be here Thursday!

I just so happen to have some pedals, so I'm sure I will pour on some heavy effects...

I CAN'T WAIT!!

Be careful not to use that G12H30 by itself. You'll blow it up.

That first cab would be a killer cabinet. The second would be ok.

Since I already purchased the 1x12, i'll prob be switching the speaker out for something else. I am still a newbie to mesas and was under the impression that the Vintage 30 was a 30 watt speaker, so I didn't think the G12H30 would have any trouble with the Mark IV. But the V30 is actually a 60 watt speaker. The G12H30 is a 30 watt and i'm sure it will blow if used by itself.

What speaker would you guys recommend? Everyone seems to like the V30s, but is there a 'superior' speaker? And 8 or 16 ohms for the 1x12 cab?

Thanks for the help...

Well for the 1x12 I would be pretty sure to put something with some decent handling in there. Probably a Mesa Black Shadow or an EV-12L, or another speaker that can handle more than the 85 watts rms of the Mark IV. Run it at 8 Ohms, that seems to be the standard for 1x12s.

How would this sound?

Cool, I won the auction for the MC90... I should be SET once everything comes in next week. I just hope it all gets here quick. I've got my XXX 212 cab to play with too, so no worries!

BTW, what do you play your Mark IV through? Just curious...

Cool man, you should like how that sounds.

Currently I am using an Avatar G212 Vintage 2x12 enclosure with a Celestion Vintage 30/G12H30 combo. Sounds good but I am going to move on to a 4x12 Stiletto or Rectifier cab here soon. I had the opportunity to try my Mark IV through a halfback 4x12 and I have to say I wasn't all that impressed with it. I then decided to try it on a few other cabs and I found that the Traditional Rectifier cabs just sound perfect to my ears. They are like a fuller Marshall 1960V. So now I am just waiting for one to pop up on Craigslist and try to get a deal, what can I say, I'm cheap.

I think ANYTHING will sound good to me at first since I am switching from a Peavey XXX to a Mesa Mark IV. Once I get accustomed to how it sounds and start trying out other options, I might decide on a 2x12, but for now the portability of a 1x12 is very appealing.

I still need to work on getting a footswitch, though... $200 seems steep for a new one, but I may have to bite the bullet again. I am watching ebay closely for a used one. Let me know if you stumble upon one in your scourings...

Thanks Rampage! You've been a big help...

Dude it definitely will, I made my move from a 5150 to the Mark IV and it is amazing how much nicer the Mesa is. Peavey is a great manufacturer, I can't say anything bad because I used the 5150 for about four years, but they aren't even close to being in the ballpark of the Mesa.

Congrats man, you got a GREAT amp!

The guy I bought the 1x12 cab from had another thiele cab I just bought! He had a really expensive speaker in it, but since I just bought the black shadow, he is going to keep the speaker and send just the cab. It is another matching mark series cab!

I still can't find a dang footswitch for the life of me, though... May have to order it new... yikes.

Nice man, you are going to have a really nice setup. Hell, the more I think about it, the more I am thinking about going the dual Thiele route also. I've got a nice pile of cash and someone who will buy my Avatar... dare I endulge?

Well, I meant to say he had another cab that happened to be a thiele. The other cab is a open back. The thiele will go on the bottom for added punch and bass...

Indulge away!

I am thinking about going for it. It would definitely be cool to get two of them and have like a mini stack. Plus it would give me the excuse to have more Mesa logos in the house. Probably would be spectacular for recording. Ah hell I will try to get my hands on some.

Yeah, the cabs both being mark series cabs means they will match the mark iv head. It should be a very sweet sounding mini stack. And in the case that I don't need the extra headroom, or I am just goin to be jamming at a friend's house, I can grab just the thiele and the head. Ultra portable for sure! I paid slightly more than I would expect to pay because they are matching and the thiele is supposed to sound incredible. I guess they are somewhat of a rarity to find, so the total price reflects that. And the timing couldn't be better.

Good luck with your search! I'll send you some pics of my setup when everything gets delivered. PM me your email address so we can continue talking about this stuff and let this thread die down.

PS - I just got the new Dream Theater album and Petrucci plays a Mark IV on it and it sounds AWESOME. I know what I want my rig to sound like now. :D

Later.
