Mark III presence settings

Question...
If you follow the suggested settings by Mesa, they have the presence set very high, but everyone always says to keep your presence between 1 and 2. Why would Mesa say to put it so high?

I dont run mine that lower. usually in the 4-6 range. you really cut through the mix easier with a higher setting in a band context (without being harsh).

if i run mine so low it muddies up a bit (Gib V or LP, EV thiele)

I'm a 10 with the Mark III, my mark IIB likes 3-4, Mark IV, all over the place with the presence knobs.

old ears, not sensitive enough to hear the highs I guess...

mines on 4.5
