The relays were flickering on my TA. So, I took off the bottom cover and noticed that the back of the toggle switch sub board had made some deep indentations and possibly penetrated thru the connected ribbon cable creating a short.

I gave the main board pins a wack with contact cleaner, and re-installed the toggle ribbon cable. Then I cut up and old credit card, and put it between the ribbon cable and the toggle board to prevent any shorts. The Red channel sounds thicker now.

I hate ribbon cables. My Mackie 8 Buss mixer had a big problem with intermittance due to ribbon cable construction. My 2:90 power amp had a problem because the Power Transformer had a lousy connection , and melted the ribbon connector. I cut off that end, and soldered the wires to the board directly, and haven't had a problem since.

You've been warned. Give me money.

"The relays were flickering on my TA" What does this mean... what were the symptons?

Cheers
Jon

There was a short, or intermittant connection. YOu can hear the relays engage when you power up the amp. YOu can hear them even better with the power toggle on, and then plugging in the power cord. It was making that sound while I was playing the green channel, along with some dropout.

I took the bottom off mine and that cable is actually bent away from the front panel mini-switch board. Thanks for the info though.

Everything inside is very neatly laid out
