Great observations. I appreciate your thoroughness. I agree that LSS works really well with single coil, and I recommend trying out the G&L with Zebra coil pick ups - just about the best sounding single coil for LSS.
I've put the 6L6 back into the LS; EL34s sounded very wimpy - I'll keep those for my Stiletto.
