Any y'all tried el34's in it, yet?

Would it sound like a Marshall, or what?


I am seriously considering getting one, then I'll have one of each!

The Special is great, but it doesn't have much clean headroom in it.
 
That is my next thing to do. I'd also be interested to hear from anyone else. I don't think that the tone plant on a Mesa is the same as a Marshall - but then again, so many "signature" tones on Marshall's were from modded versions and the early ones were real inconsistent in quality and product parts. Even with that they helped define a classic sound of R&R.

I think of the EL34 as a british sound - you can get the radical sounds from them. They have head room that 84's don't but have a lot of the same tonal characteristics of 84s.
