For playing at home?
I'm a new Mark v owner. Right now I'm playing my head thru the widebody openback cab that I used my old 5:50 with. Sounds awesome!!!
I'm thinking about getting the widebody closed back ported cab with a V30.
Would this be overkill for my needs?
I play mostly at home at modest volumes. I do crank it when I'm the only one home. When I do play out I'm only going to grab one cab.
What do you guys think?

I have an open-back combo paired with a 1x12 ported cab (EVM 12L). Even playing at home at low volumes, I strongly prefer the sound of the amp with both cabs (or with the closed back cab alone) than with just an open-back cab.

I have that exact configuration in my living room right now. Even at low volumes, it sounds much better to me than just a single 1x12, be it the open-back or closed back.

I'm using a 3/4 back at home so it is the best of both worlds!

I just picked one up today! Found it for $250, so I couldnt pass it up. Wont stack it with my widebody front ported till prolly tuesday, cause my music room is in shambles at the moment. It is 27 inches though, and my other cab is 23 inches, so stacking them may not be so aesthetically pleasing, but we will see.

I found a closed back widebody loaded with a v30. I sold a couple pedals I didn't use and came ahead on the price so that was good. Should sound sweet.

why would you care what other people outside your housemates think anyways?

crank it up and rawk out!

Well, it's quit obvious. get a roadking cab and be done with it. Open, closed or both. I can get any tone, period. The 2x12 fits perfectly in most bedrooms.

I really like the open back closed back combination of speakers. They really respond in a great way together. Thats the reason why I went with a combo V. I love the open sound you get with a combo, for stage sound, but the closed back cab gives you the punch and bottom end. Great choice..enjoy...

+1 on it all.
When I have my MkV in the headshell, I use a widebody open back with a Tone Tubby hempcone, on top of a widebody closed back with EVM12L. I just used that at a gig last weekend and it sounds awesome. You may not be able to get the low end "thump" at bedroom volumes, but it is a great combination. It is second only to an 80's era open/closed 4x12, which is my favorite for bigger gigs. I can't believe how good the EVM in the widebody closed back sounds!

Man, I just love the combination in all situations. And yeah it's the sound of the 80's 412 half open half closed! Hey, I was wondering which EV's you're running? Right now I have wide body open, and wide body closed, both with C90's, which sound really great, but I know how great the EV's sound!
