Heres the deal, a week and a half ago I found a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb for $650 at www.harmony-central.com and I contacted the guy via email and he replied pretty quickly and said he still had it but couldn't accept PayPal due to some bad luck with it, so I said I couldn't do it I only use paypal. He replied back later that same day and gave me some paypal information to make a payment to and said it was his brother-in-laws and he would just have him accept the money for him and write him a check and as soon as he got the payment he’d let me know when he could ship the amp, so I sent the money to “the brother-in-law”. I didn’t hear from him for 3 days after sending the payment or after several emails, I finally sent him a pretty expressive letter stating that I felt like I was being scammed and had some friends in high places (I jam with an attorney once a month) and threatened him with filing a fraud claim on him, he promptly responded and said he had been working 12 hour days and this was the first chance he had to check his email and he was legit and would get to work on getting the amp to me – he also said he’d send me a picture of the amp (after several request for a pic) so I’d know he wasn’t trying to scam me and to prove he had the amp (there were also some “wrong” details in the description I wanted him to clear up by sending a picture as well). It has now been a week since I got that last email from him saying he wasn’t scamming me and I’ve probably sent 10 emails to him.
Let me back track a bit here…. On Monday, I went ahead and filed a claim with Paypal and Tuesday night I sent both of them (the seller and brother-in-law) an email saying if I didn’t receive my money back or the amp, that I would file a fraud claim with their local law enforcement and this is over $500 so it would also be a felony.
Anyone know what else I can do to get my money back or what other steps I can take?? Or better yet, anyone live around Minneapolis, Minnesota and have a big stick and aren't afraid to use it?!?!
