I play metal with my ROADSTER. EL34 or 6L6 tubes?

Just wanted to get a general consensus about the best tubes to use in a Roadster. I'm gonna have to re-tube in the next few days I think, and am torn. I've got 6L6 in right now, and I have been needing a replace for so long now I can't recall how they sounded when they sounded GOOD. And before that, I used the 34's.. which seemed a bit less bold, if I remember correctly.. This is over a year's time. Any thoughts?

It's hard to go wrong with either IMO. 6L6 is nice if you want more of a thumpy tone, EL34s if you want a bit more crunch. Either way, it'll still sound like a Rectifier so it's not like making the wrong choice will render things unusable.

Hmm.. What's the story with those? I haven't read around on them really. Are they good for metal do you think?

JJ's EL34L has a nice midrange-rich tone like any EL34 but has an extended bottom end. Its right in between a 6L6 and an EL34 in the bass department.

I keep JJ's at least 50 ft. away from my Recto at all times.

PLEASE do yourself a favor and try the Winged C EL34's. Thump of the 6L6 but the nice crunch of the EL34.

Seems to be a divisive issue we're dealing with here! Now I don't know who to trust.

I preferred JJ EL34s in my roadster but was still not completely happy with it.... Traded it for a Electradyne and I've never been happier... I'm just saying.. :D

JJ's are relatively cheap so they rock if you like the tone. Everyone raves over the winged C's but I have never tried them so I have no opinion on them yet. Go to eurotubes.com and tubedepot.com and buy a quad of each.

Winged C and Tun-Sol EL34's are the best new production tubes on the market. Besides that, they sound incredible. If you can afford them. The JJ's are a good alternative if you are on a budget.

you could also try KT-77's as well. I had them in my Rectoverb and I absolutely loved them.

An amp loaded with Winged =C= EL34's is just one of God's greatest gifts.
