You really don't need much with this amp in the way of effects. If you are curious about how it takes effects check out John Petrucci's rig. OD performance isn't the best into the front but it already gets you further than most amps would. This is because the gain is so close to maximum possible already. Your time based effects will sound better in the loop. Your choice of traditional stompboxes or rack is up to you and what you want from them.
