Hi, I'm selling all my **** stuff this month and I want your help on deciding which gear to buy ... Couple of months ago someone said to me that an amp is important that a guitar is that true ? if that's true that mean I need to buy the best amp I can with the money and then save up some money to get a great guitar ? plz help

btw I'm moving to the US in a month so plz look at the US price tag .... thx

The amp is almost more important than the guitar. If you have a great $50000 guitar, but a $100 amp, it will sound terrible. But a $100 guitar can sound average through a $50000 amp.

WHat kind of bands and music do you like?

Right now I'm doing some Dream theater Cover songs ... so that's the tone I'm looking for

Mark IV or Road King/Roadster. Or Lone Star for just the cleans.

Mesa Boogie Mark IV may be hard to get hold of now it's discontinued, I don't what the 2nd hand market is like in the USA.

But try and get one definitely.

You don't need the Lonestar for cleans, I personally think having a seperate amp just for cleans is bizarre unless you're rich or something.

I have owned all my boogie products second hand in the usa, just pay attention to seller feedback on the ebay.

If you narrowed it down to just those two, then a Mark IV.

I will chime in and suggest a Studio or Quad pre, a 50/50 power amp and Formula Pre for cleans. Its all you would need for Dream Theater. Then again, grab a Road King v2, and you will have the Lone Star clean channel, and very dirty gain...

Personally, I would choose the first option since I'm not much of a fan of the Rectifiers, they sound too buzzy for my taste, however, he did a good job with the RKI on TOT..

..and I too am after the Petrucci tone... His tone on Systematic Chaos is prime.. Same for some of his recent live stuff too.
