Has anyone put Tone Tubby's in a Lone Star?

I saw Bob Weir and Rat Dog the other night and the Tone Tubby's sounded great from up front. I'm thinking about putting them in my '07 LSC or maybe building another 2x12 cab for them.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried it with a Lone Star or any Mesa amp for that matter.

I use an 1x12 with a Alnico TT with my LSS. I've always heard that Alnico goes well with el-84's, and i wasn't disapointed. It's like every frequency is improved..

I'm not sure you'll get away with a 2x12 with a LSC. The TT are rated at 40W each... and the LSC is 100W...

I hadn't thought that far ahead yet to look into the wattage of the TT speakers. I was just starting to get excited about the idea. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

Please try the Eminence Cannibis Rex's They are a low cost ceramic alternative that sound fantastic. I had them in my LSC Classic 2x12 extension cab. I since moved those speakers to a Port City wave 2x12 and use the cab with my Fuchs TDS or MKIII Blue Stripe. They are very under rated speakers IMO.

The Rex's seem like they could be a great alternative to the TT. In your opinion how did they compare to the stock Celestions?

Also, how do you like your Port City? I've never heard one or knew anyone who had one.

They CR's sound way different than C90's . The CR's are more even sounding and not spiky at all. The C90's still have a mid hump that is noticable, although not as prominent as the V30's. The CR's are more sparkly in the cleans and have this delicious sounding "fuzz" for the lack of a better word for the dirty sounds. They are loud as well, they are rated for 100db sensitivity. They don't sound good in Mesa Theile's, flat, lifeless, but in the Port ity they sound perfect. The Port city Wave 2x12 is very even sounding, not boomy like the Recto 2x12's and are almost as 3D as an open back cab, but don't lose projection like open backs. I put a couple of EV's in it at first, but it was too heavy! and the speakers did sound compressed, like they weren't breathing properly, but the CR's are a perfect match. I'm going to get another PCW 2x12 so that I can run my MKIII Blue stripe though it alongside a Mesa EV Theile.

I am definitely interested in the CR's as an alternative. I just read a post on the TT forum where a guy used some TT's in a 100w Mesa and the speakers lived to tell the tale. Although he did not recommend it.

Post how it turns out. I am on the hunt for the perfect speaker for my LSC>javascript:emoticon(':p')

I sure will post it, although it might be a little while. I'm in the Navy and my underway schedule is pretty busy.

Have you tried any other speakers in your LSC yet?
