I have located a couple of builders who will do this however it is not much cheaper than going through Mesa for high grade flamed maple. Can anyone with expereince having new cabinets made please share any insights that would be helpful before I make the plunge?

Thanks

The Mesa prices are not bad compared to contracting a builder. Plus, you know you'll get a case that fits. Plus, Mesa can buy the figured woods in quantity and save you some money there. A private builder will pay more for it since he'll buy in MUCH smaller quantities. That gets passed on to you as well.

there are a few companies that do this well. I was looking them up yesterday actually.......

also a forumite posted this in one of my searches:

"I have a friend in NC that makes nice hardwood cabs. Mark combos, heads, thieles, rectifiers... Imbuya, bubinga, flame maple, purple heart, brazilian cherry, you name it. He made me a Mark I combo in blue flame maple, a Mark II head in natural flame maple, a Mark III combo in bubinga with a matching thiele cab. Wicker cane on all. Nice cabs at a very reasonable price. Just tell him what you want and what to make it out of!
If anyone is interested, email me and I'll put you in touch with him.

Yeah, make sure the one that build you the enclosure uses half-bind dovetail joint. Actually full bind dovetail joint works as well.

But I agree with CudBucket, not sure how much you will save compare to purchase directly from MESA.

But then again, you could check out the progress of your enclosure having built locally.

I'd go to Mesa - they do extremely good work, you can rest well knowing the fit and finish will be perfect, and their pricing is well within range of what other people are able to offer. Here's my F-50 in Bubinga. The wood cab was a $469 upgrade.

Mesa is going to charge me $750 for the empty combo cab and $800 for the empty extension cab in Bubinga with wicker grills!! Does this seem right? Maybe I should just stick with the black tolex!!

The wicker/bubinga upgrade alone is roughly $470 - add to that the initial cost of the cab (wich is presumably therefore roughly 350/400 bucks). It's a lot of money - but as I said before, you know you're getting an extremely high quality build. If you're lusting for the wood/wicker look, save your pennies and go for it (either through Mesa or someone else. If it'snot such a huge deal to have that look, then the basic tolex is probably the way to go. FWIW, If I had a IIC+ I'd take the plunge, because you will LOVE the way it looks. A Boogie in harwood and wicker, to me at least, is the classic and consummate Boogie look.

Good luck!
