Effects loop

Hi,
i'm Teo and i'n new here..

I bought a Mesa DR solohead just 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to use an old Yamaha Gep 50 with the Loop effect circuit just for simple effets like delay, compressor, reverb... I've connected all right, but i dont know if is it normal to have a little volume loss when effect is ON (with switch setted on FTSW and button "on" on the Footswitch)
I've tried some config.. but the best solution seems (as manual says) to set mix to 50% on Mesa rear panel and the balance in the gep50 effect at 100%. For exemple if i set mix 100% on mesa and 50% in Gep50 there's too much volume loss.
By the way the only way to play sounding good seems to set the "solo" knob bit higher than "output" knob and press at the same time both fx and solo button on FTSW while playing. That's not so nice for "user friendlyness"
I tried also a Boos gt1, but its the same...

So.. here the questions:
Is it normal to have this volume loss?.. and if yes, how can i resolve this problem? (may be using a boost signal between effect and mesa) May be a problem of my Mesa?

It is normal to have a little drop when the loop is engaged, and you can use the level or volume on the effect unit to compensate for the drop or just turn the amp up.

Your channel masters are also effects loop send levels!
