PA = power amp...
Do'H, I kept thinking Public Address system and why would you want Public Address distortion? :oops: unrelated side note: Personally, I think a mic'ed small amp sounds great through a PA system.

In Guitar Player Mag. there's a great article critiquing the Lone Star Special and how Randall Smith had a thought on power switching of the output transformer using a "humbuckle" effect so he must have been talking about the windings of the output transformer.

Maybe someone here could fill us in because my electronic background is limit to one Junior college semester.

I recently purchased an amp that has a Class A power section that uses EL34s. The touch sensitivity is amazing. Is it possible to get this type of sensitivity from a Dual Rec? Is it possible to convert a Dual Rec power section to Class A from A/B? Anybody but me ever thought about this?

Yes, there is a way to get the dynamics you're describing. This is exactly how I did it with my Trem-O-Verb.

1. Switch to EL34s and crank it. Loads of dynamics at lower volumes, and Marshallesque mids.
2. Throw a Boss BD-2 in front (haven't tried it with the loop) with low gain settings on the Boss. This really makes the notes bloom for you.
3. If you have the Bold/Spongy switch, choose Spongy.

If you need to switch the amp, try the Recto Pre with an old 295 or 395 Mesa power amp. They both have Class A power options. The VHT 2/50/2 power amp also has Class A power which users really like.
