My friend back home had the widebody combo, as well, and honestly, I hated the way it sounded! It was very flubby, barky, and harsh sounding. I can tell you that this is due to the speaker setup.
I have a DC10 head and have previously owned a DC3 head. If you run your amp through any decent 412 cab, you will crap on yourself once you hear the difference in sound quality!
Back whenI had the DC3, I was running it on top of a closed back recto 212; it did not do the head any justice...one night I brought the head over to a friend's house and just for shites and giggles, we took his MKIV off of his m/b 412 1/2 back cabinet and put the little DC3 on top. The tone was immensely greater. The tone went from flub to tight, saturated, and smooth! On top of this, the amount of bass response was exponentially greater!
I know for a fact that your DC5 is capable of the tones you want stock! The format and speaker is holding you back.
