Do Mesas compliment other Mesas?

Im just curious about experience from anybody on here who plays in a band with another guitarist who also owns another different Mesa amp.

Especially interested about pairing a Rectifier with a Mark but all other models would make for an interesting topic. Perhaps a Lonestar along with a Stiletto?..

And what about any issues with volume levels, info about wattage settings, EQ-ing, cutting through and how things all sound in a mix.

They will compliment each other, but if you want two different tones perhaps it's best to go with Mesas that aim at other tones all together (example a Rectifier with a Stilleto for an American and British sound). If you want drastically different sounds obviously go for another brand.

I think a Rectifier and a Mark will be just a little too close in tone...Yes, the Mark will be tighter with some more mids, but it's not a drastically different sound. It's just a different "shade of green," so to say. Most Mesas have a characteristic dark, smooth tone.

I personally love blending a Rectifier and a Mark out of the same cabinet. It gives me a full sound that reminds me of 90's Metallica.

A Recto and Mark is fairly common. Metallica, Corrosion of Conformity and Lamb of God being bands that stick out in my mind. I know there's been plenty of others.

Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) has been combining a Tremoverb and Electra Dyne for the last little while.

I find the Recto mates well with pretty much any mid heavy amp... Mark, Electra Dyne, Stiletto, Marshall, 5150, etc.

Many times I use just my Roadster and my other guitarist in one of my bands uses his Recto. Believe it or not, the difference in tone is enough that it actually makes for a great blend. The roadster being a little darker and on channel 4 really compliments his dual rec.

Don't overlook the obvious thing, be sure to use two different guitars. A Les Paul with a Tele is a particularly great combo.

I would think that even two Rectos could get along in the same band if one was attached to a PRS and the other was attached to a Tom Anderson. Of course, if each player uses a different cab / speaker combination, it will further assist in eliminating masking issues.

Don't overlook the MOST obvious thing - two different people tweaking their amp and playing. My bandmate and I switched amps once for fun with permission to tweak the settings. Our taste in tone is extremely different (as are our amps - ENGL Powerball and Marshall JVM410) and that will always be present in our sound no matter what we're playing.

In the band I play with a mkIII and my buddy plays with a DC-3. we always get compliments (no pun intended!) about how the band sounds great.

the III's 6L6 tone match very well with the DC3's el84 timbre.
