I just scored a mark v combo and love the tones I'm hearing. If this were a closed back combo I would never have to buy another amp again.

It has the c90 in it. Sounds good but just lacks a certain something for me.

I have read in the forum that having a lower power rating like a v30 is ok.

My top choice at the moment is a wgs retro 30 speaker.
Followed by a weber grey wolf or possibly one of the eminence speakers geared towards rock/metal

My biggest questions are what do you all think of the retro 30 and/or would it be better to go with a eminence that has more power handling in order to get rid of the chugging flub

Set it on top of a closed back 1x12 or 2x12 cab! I think the stock C-90 is fine. I think if you play with the controls you can get rid of flub by adjusting tone controls. My combo is tight but can easily flub out. Check out the video by John Petrucci below for his explanation.

I've watched the video all ready and have settings similar to that.

Do you run the combo and 1x12 speaker at the same time? Lastly, how come putting it on a 1x12 takes away the flub?

Thank!

Also, it only flubs when palm muting and ending on a palm mute.

Follow these steps...Take your combo outside put it on the 90 watt setting, play it REAL Loud for an hour or two...and your speaker will loosen up a bit..I had the same opinion on the c90 until I played a couple of outdoor gigs. it gets better.. Now put in a 30 watt speaker and do the same.. after you blow the 30 watt speaker..put the 90 watt one back in..and understand why Mesa put in a 90 watt speaker in the first place. if you do use a 30 watt speaker in a 90 watt amp... it will blow if you approach the 50 to 60% capacity of this beast.

I try cranking it up!

Wgs retro 30 is an 80 watt vintage 30 type speaker. I totally understand wattage. Figured it woul be ok at 80watts since there are people who have v30 in their combos
