closed cab v.s. open or 1/2 open cab

Right now my cab is closed and I'm planning on putting 2 celestion g12h and 2 celestion vintage 30s. I heard that Alnicos heat up and don't work well in closed cabs, and closed cabs also have a tighter bass response. In that case, what are the drawbacks since everyone on here seems to have open cabs? And could I cut my closed cab at the top back 8-12 inches if I wanted to put alnicos in it?

Did you think about to sell it and just buy a roadking cab? Just an idea...

I think instead of cutting your cab, make a new back panel. This way you maintain the original back panel in the event you ever sell.
