boutique pedal brands? Build Your Own Clone? What's Good

I'm looking for some good quality, true bypass pedals (don't need OD though) I really like the Robert Keeley stuff, but I want to find a good Tremolo and phaser..I'm new to the boutique market so I could use some advice I have seen some recomendations on the BYOC stuff. Are they really Good? How Easy ? I have never soldered anything in my life.

Fulltone makes great stuff, built like a tank. Their Tremelo gets good reviews.

I've built some of the buildyourownclone.com stuff. Built a Tremolo and a Delay... in the process of putting together an envelope filter. After that it's the wah drop in kit.

All of his kits are true bypass, and most of them are direct clones of vintage pedals so if you are going for the vintage sound you might want to have a go at it.

The kits aren't that tough to put together as long as you take your time with it and follow the directions closely. And if you aren't sure about something you can always stop and post a question on their message board. If you've never soldered before you can get some stuff to practice on at Radio Shack. Just make sure you get safety glasses and you have good ventilation. I know somebody who got hot solder in their eye (it randomly spits out from the heat on rare occasion). He went to the hospital and was fine but said it hurt like hell.

Electro Harmonix makes some pretty good stuff as well... and for good prices. True bypass, vintage sounding stuff.

Build your own clone puts out a very high quality product. It's also a great starting point for understanding effects. There are several effects that I like but there are a few things about them I would like to change...BYOC is great for understanding how those components work together and how changing a few of them might improve or change the tones.

If there is something specific you are looking for in a BYOC effect, you can always post a request on the boards and the community will respond very quickly with modification ideas. Great community, great site and great product...you can't go wrong.

You can't go wrong with BYOC. I've built the overdrive, and the delay kit. They sound great and you save a lot of money building them yourself. (The prebuilt BYOC kits are also reasonable as well.)

I've been thinking about getting the fuzz face clone next.

Just finished the BYOC envelope filter this weekend. I do this:

Guitar, fuzz, octave pedal, envelope filter = Funk City!!

BYOC is great - but they do take some time to put together.

Funny, I was disappointed at how quickly the compressor went together. Only took 3 hours to build, and most of that time was spent sorting out resistor can capacitor values. I also took a break to watch the Simpsons and grab something to eat.

Well I'm super busy so 3 hours is a lot of time for me - Usually takes me about 4 though because I really take my time with everything as I'd hate to have to debug one of these things. 3 pedals so far and every one worked perfectly on the first try.
