I have a B.A. with a slight hum now. I'm pretty sure a 5AR4 will clean that up. I would like to know if anyone has had success with any of the following tubes (or any others for that matter):

1. Mullard from the late 60's

2. Groove Tube Gold series

3. Sovtek.

4. Cryogenic treated anything??

5. JJ's

I replaced the 6V6's with S.E.D. 6L6GC's (highly recommended) and the EL-84's made at the Reflector factory (just like the Sovtek's). I'd like to get this thing clean as a whistle, as I'm now going to be using this for a jazz/recital setting where you can actually hear the silence.

I have had good luck with the tung sol 12ax7's The JJ pre's have alot of gain. The Electro harmonix are nice and quiet. Go here for info on lowering the gain on that high gain amp. Works nice for jazz.
