Just would like to here anybody's opinions on musical forums other than the Boogie board of course that have some musical merit to them. i have visited a few and have always thought this one was at the top of the list with regards to people who really cared about music and wasn't just a pissing match between a few wankers. I have been trying to get one of my friends to check out the boogie board. My friend is a member of the Harmonycentral forum and says that although it is full of a bunch of morons there are instances where there is some good and knowledgeable conversations or debates with regards to choice of gear effects etc. etc.. My friend although a good musician can be a sarcastic jack *** from time to time and I think that is why he is able to traverse through all of the silly threads that tend to be posted on the harmonycentral forum. My biggest problem with harmonycentral is that it is so freakin big that you can get lost on it and it is hard to maintian order of the threads you have engaged in or responded to.

I try telling my friend just because you don't use MESA gear "YET" :) doesn't mean that you cant be a member of the Boogie Board. He is a guitar gear junkie like myself. My friend will ask me about gear and trying to find a thread on harmonycentral to talk about that gear, and i keep telling him to post a thead on this Board in the Effects section or Off topic section and you will see that just because it is the Boogie board doesn't mean that people exclusively talk about their Boogie gear / amps, but will engage in conversations with regards to all sorts of effects units, amplifiers (other than boogie amps), guitars, tubes, all sorts of electronical devices. I tell my friend that although there aren't as many wankers on the board that you can still get a laugh from time to time in the off topic section and that you will probably learn more about gear on this site than the harmony central site IMO.

thanks Stephen

In general these are more mature places than HC. A lot of well know pros hang at a few of these places. If you see a name you are more than likely communicating with that person and not some kid just using that name.

Each have there own rules ...... if someone acts the way people do on HC on some of these forums they well be removed.

I visit the Boogie Board and The Gear Page the most. Sometimes I'll go to check out Rig Talk too.
All three have a different vibe. All are good sources for info.
I see Stephen's smiley face on the other two forms from time to time. :)

I've heard so much bashing of Harmony Central that I only went there once to check it out. Immediate turn off!

unless im very very desperate to sell something i stay away from HC ...wayyyyy too much bullshit ego there..

i do frequent Homerecording.com and enjoy it ( no where near as much as my family Here !)

The boogie Board is my Main Site

I spend a lot of time on The Fender Forum, The Les Paul Forum and The Gear Page.

+1 on BCRPF

John Petrucci Forums and this one. Thats it really.

I lurk on a lot of other forums though, like Gearslutz, David McNaughts forum, but im not a member on them. Just like to sear through some of their topics.

There is an xotic forum for xotic effects pedals. Not much traffc. A poster tagged xotic comes on every few days and replies to a few posts. Good info available, just don't be in a hurry to get it. Humbucker musc is a botique pedal dealer. They have unusual Boogies, sea-foam green, special wood, etc. They know more about pedals than any other store I have found. Fortunately they are fairly close to Atlanta. Just have to convince the wife to eat stewed tomatoes and rice for a month so I can get that Barber Compressor and AC Booster   Could tell her she needs to drop a few pounds anyway...  wonder how that would work...

lemme know how that works out for you

www.monkeylordforum.co.uk - Great little site full of guitar players

www.sevenstring.org

www.guitarmasterclass.net

Most of my forum choices are based around playing, not gear!

I made that mistake before ..... it did not help me at all.

How it's gonna work out is me working a shift of OT for some extra coin.... But when I get that special Eddie Van Petrucci pedal I'll show em all!!!

On the real side, it is hard to find many of the botique pedals. I will drive up to Humbucker Music in Tenn. and try out a Barber Tone Press, Diamond Comp, and they have all the Xotic RC/AC/BB pedals. Hopefully I will find a mild compressor for high gain leads. I can't tell squat from a YouTube post that Big Name Guitar Player posts for the next great pedal. It wil be nice to be able to A/B/C test the Keeley 4 knob/Diamond/Barber AC and then take one home! :D

Depends.

The Tama drum forum.
