Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rev. G - Filter Cap job

If it's an axial cap it's easy, if it's a radial cap you have to get under it to remove it... You might be able to get under there and snip a leg with some cutters but you'd need to be dextrous to get it in the gap and not score the board. But then you can just remove the legs, clear the pads...

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

well that's some good research right there. I boxed the amp up a few days ago after having changed the filter caps, but if this makes a difference to the reverb I'll totally open it up again. I've never had an issue with the solder pads on any Mesa. just hit them with fresh solder quickly and...

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

Not sure I dispelled anything, merely added my own thoughts to the pile :) That's an interesting theory about the 680k/220k. Since it's in series it'll drop the signal as well so increasing it will make the amp quieter (it's still a 100w amp so still insanely loud). A quick method to test...

Dual Caliber Age Difference? Other Differences?

You can read a rough date from the code on the filter caps on the amp PCB. Otherwise it sounds like version A, version B differences.

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

I suspect those 2 little caps would be to roll off the high end in the reverb signal so it sits in the mix better, under the guitar rather than on it. Thing is, the topology of the DC reverb isn't really different from other Mesa amps with reverb so I'm not sure where the difference is coming...

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

No ideas beyond changing the tank, the driver tube (v5), maybe the transformer itself. However, one thing I have done recently and haven't tested yet (amp is still out of the enclosure) is play through it after cleaning the internal connections of the tank. I doubt it'll change anything but I...

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

I did yeah. I changed the 22k resistor to a 7.5k resistor. I made no difference and the reverb is still hardly audible. Since I modded the loop though I use a source audio ventris for reverb, which is another thing to carry and power and plug in, but it's fine. Another thing I've done since...

Single Rectifier Series 2 tighter gain mods?

That's not what the guys asking though. To remove muddy bass you've got a few options, namely lowering the value of the cathode bypass caps from 1uf to 680n (start there and see how you go), and the coupling caps (lower the value to 10n or so, see how you go). Modding the loop just to use a...

    DC-5/10 footswitch problem :(

Ok, bit of an update. I followed this thread and copied the wiring there: https://boogieforum.com/threads/diagram-for-dc-5b-channel-eq-switch.66810/ Good news is the switching works. Bad news is that, with the footswitch in the jack, there's a bleed through of the lead channel into the rhythm...

    DC-5/10 footswitch problem :(

I'm using this diagram to attempt to make a footswitch for my 1997 DC10 B. I'm using the jack on the front marked Footswitch, using a TRS cable, have followed the above diagram exactly (minus the resistors for the LEDs) and I only get the EQ switching in/out, but not the channel selection so...

Just traded my Subway Rocket for an F 30, but struggling with the Crunch channel

Bigger speaker = more bass = more 'mud'. Different speaker in a different enclosure = different mids. Tubes won't change the speaker or the enclosure, they'll just eliminate them as the issue. V30s have an upper mid thing I don't like to hear, maybe you're the same. An EQ pedal could fix...

Just traded my Subway Rocket for an F 30, but struggling with the Crunch channel

Mud is generally too much bass, and a boxy sound is generally too much mids. Small combo cabinets generally suffer from the latter and not commonly the former. So... An eq pedal night fix that right away, and a lot cheaper than anything else.

Power Tube Failure? Thin, Hum, etc...

How old is the amp? The symptoms you're describing sound like those attributed to a filter cap failing, but they typically last 10+ years.

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

Phase 2 gain mod Changing the 150k to a 220k does a little, but it doesn't do enough. After playing my rectifier it left me wanting more from the DC10. Granted, there's less gain stages in the DC amps but they still sound a little lacking to my jaded ears. I had a look at the Dual Rec schematic...

    DC Mods - Revisited...........Sort of.............

Alright guys. It's 2024. Let's update this with some actual pics. This isn't the 'blanket mod' but I think it achieves the same thing just earlier on in the circuit. HIGH END RESTORATION: After the treble pot in the dirty channel there's a network to ground right after it comprising of a...

Which mess fan? The one in my stiletto was 12v, the one you linked is 120v.

    Multiwatt Triple Rectifier fan noise?

That's not what I meant, I meant that should your fan be running off mains V then my post wouldn't be helpful as the Stiletto fan runs off its own 12v supply.
