Boss MS-3 - anyone use it with Mark V?

I've been playing without effects the last few years, but have been thinking about adding some basic effects for a few songs. But I don't want to lug my G-Major/GCX Switcher/midi pedal rack to gigs, so am thinking about a basic, but good quality multi-effects pedal. The Boss MS-3 caught my eye...

amp no longer for sale- please delete post. Thanks.

Will this work or am I going to toast something

Yup, it's safe. All the amp sees is the 4ohm total load made by plugging in the 8ohm speaker and the 8ohm 4x12 cab (two 8ohm loads in parallel are equivalent to one 4ohm load). You could have a cab with 10 speakers and as long as it was wired so that the load was 8ohms total, you'd be fine. Just...

    Preamp tubes

I just wanted to remind everyone to be sure to do some preamp tube swapping if you are unhappy with your tone... Background: I have never been much of a fan of JJ preamp tubes, as I have always found them to be dark sounding in other amps. When I heard that JJ was now the supplier of tubes for...

Mesa 4x12 metal grill 1/2back on Boston CL

Just a heads up for the local Boston guys - appears to be a great deal ($250) on a metal grill 4x12 1/2back cab - looks beat, but may even have EV's in the bottom. Saw the ad and thought I'd pass it along - It's not my cab. Here's the link: http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/msg/1388464382.html

    Mark V Solo Boost

Are you finding the Solo Boost handy? Does it work well as a lead boost when playing live?

removing mark3 amp chassis from combo

If I remember correctly, you have to unplug the fan too. The amp chassis will come out easily by just lifting slightly, while gently pulling and "walking" the chassis back toward the back of the cabinet. Good luck.

Which pedal for a Mark IV?

I've never been a pedal guy and usually plug my guitars straight into my amp. However, I do occasionally use a Barber Direct Drive with my AC30 and Egnater TOL100 amps and like the added sustain. I've never really been happy with the lead tone on my Mark IV due to it being a little too smooth...

    AC voltage affect on tone

I thought I'd share an interesting test I performed over the weekend: I stumbled across a variac (variable transformer) that I had over the weekend. For kicks, I decided to see how varying the AC voltage to my Mark III and IIC affected their tone. I varied the input voltage to each amp from...

Mark IV preamp bypassed and master volumes question

I run an Egnater IE-4 in the loop of my Mark IVA. I never change my setting so I don't know which controls interact with the effect loop. I do keep my R1 gain and volume relatively low: R1 gain= 5-6, and volume around 2-3. I've never had any problems running the IE-4 in the loop.

    Mark series EQ tip

I just wanted to share something that I've been doing with my Mark amps. Its simple, but may be something that you hadn't considered - I know I didn't try it myself, until a few months ago. I used to run my EQ's around the mid-line (half-way) and slightly boost or cut certain frequencies. I...

    Mark III - custom footswitch

Ok, so I'm loving my Mark III, but don't like the pedal tap dance required to change channels due to the two footswitches required. Has anyone figured out how to make a single footswitch, with 3 buttons so that you can simply step on Ch1 to switch to channel 1, push switch #2 to switch to Rhy2...

Mark III - reverb troubleshooting help

Hey guys, I'm not having any luck troubleshooting the non-working reverb on my newly acquired Mark III blue stripe and hope you can give me a few more ideas. Here's what I know so far: - reverb itself works (worked fine when connected to my Mark IV) - the reverb cables and connections are OK...

Mark III - R2 volume pot mod

I just picked-up a Mark III blue stripe combo. The amp sounds great as is, but would prefer to have a separate volume control for R2. I know there's a mod for this and scoured the board to find more info and all I could find out was that the mod basically concerns replacing R130 with an audio...

favorite cables for use with Mark III/IV?

Warning: I thought the Planet Waves cables were great too, until I had them for a while. I like the features that these cables have, but they also have a big negative - crappy shield noise. I can hear a noise through my amp's speaker everytime I move the cable. It's kind of a "crunching sound"...

Mark IIC - footswitching the EQ and reverb

The Mark IIC manual states that there is an a stereo jack near the preamp tubes, that will allow you to switch turn the EQ on/off and increase /decrease the level of reverb using a footswitch. Well, after many years of ownership, I decided to give it a try. It didn't work -the EQ never turned...

Mark IV effects loop preamp trick

I just wanted to share a cool Mark IV effects loop feature that I discovered: Since the loop is switchable, you can switch between the Mark IV preamp section and another preamp section if you have something that can split the input signal. For instance, I can plug my guitar into my GCX unit...

Mark IIB to C+ ??? Scam?
