Quad Guitar Preamp: Can I get Metallica/Lamb of God Sounds?

Having owned the a Quad preamp/295 Stereo poweramp along with a Mark III, Mark IV, etc, just be aware that Hetfield and Hammett used Parametric EQ'S with their MarkII C+'s to get that chainsaw/scooped mids sound on Master of Puppets and AJFA stuff. A parametric EQ allows one to CUSTOMIZE the...

    Triaxis serial number question...

My Triaxis preamp is a version 3.0 with the Ser No. TX-5 8717. I know it's a version 3.0 because I called Mesa Boogie headquarters and was informed as such. Hope that helps in confirming Ser No.'s over 8000 are a version 3.0 Tri. At least mine is. Cheers!

Which Power amp would be better with an Axe Fx II

Ditto to what tguitar said about using the dial on out 1 on the Axe Fx II and having the 290 at noon. I have a Triaxis rig and am able to play at a very low volume and still get great very high gain tones just by controlling the overall level on the Triaxis Output volume and keeping the 290s...

What are your favorite speakers for the Triaxis/290/ setup?

Agreed with that description of the EV'S and really like them for those characteristics. However, I can understand your continual quest for refinement in tone of which speakers comprise such a HUGE portion of. Thanks for sharing your quest; very detailed and have learned a few things from you...

Reversal of "fat Mod" for TX-5 board Lead 1 red sucks!

Bummer! The rest of the modes sound great with the right guitar, poweramp, speakers etc. However, it is darn next to impossible to get a decent tone out of that lead 1 red mode. I would like to be able to use ALL of the modes on this preamp even though one could gravitate more to some than...

Reversal of "fat Mod" for TX-5 board Lead 1 red sucks!

Hello, I have read about the reversal of the "fat mod" for a Triaxis TX-4 board on this forum but also have read that one cannot do this for the Triaxis TX-5 board which I have (ser. no. T-8717). Is the latter statement really true? I HATE the fact that my lead 1 channel SUKCKS and is not...

What are your favorite speakers for the Triaxis/290/ setup?

So Allphorous, are you still running this setup? Just curious as to how pronounced that " nasal honk" in the EV'S was, and where did it stand out? Was it in the distortion, clean, or both?

    MY FIRST BOOGIE EXPERIENCE

Hello, The quad is a GREAT choice to go for a Mesa preamp. As someone who used to own one, I would recommend the Mesa Stereo 295 poweramp and one or two 1980's Mesa 2x12 or 4x12 open-back on top with closed-back on the bottom cabinets with the 200 watt EV'S on the bottom and 90 watt Boogie...

What are your favorite speakers for the Triaxis/290/ setup?

I can imagine how good those must sound because I used to have a pair of the Boogie 2x12's with those same speakers and open back on top for the cabs. I used them with a quad preamp and 295 power amp, a Mark III, and a Rockman XP 100amp and they sounded incredible. The EV's give that nice high...

What are your favorite speakers for the Triaxis/290/ setup?

Hello everyone, Since speakers and their respective cabs are determinative of at least 60-70% of your tone ( iave had plenty of hands on experience with this), what speakers/cabs have you found to get the kind of tone you are looking for those with a Triaxis/290? For example: High gain...
