Remove the bar that protects the tubes and then pull straight out on the power tubes but mark them first so that they go back in the same spot. Give the metal pre-amp sleeves a quarter turn and the springs in them will make the sleeves pop right off. V1 is closest to the guitar input .

For a nice even rock tone try SED =C= 's. They make a really nice 6L6 also. JJ's KT-77 is sweet too. Kinda in between the 6L6 and EL-34

No worries... Pre-amp tubes in all amps are self biasing. In Boogies, the Power Tubes self bias also.

The SED =C= EL 34"s are a super nice EL-34 for rock. I use an RFT for V1, but the new Tung-Sols are really nice for V1. For V2 to V5 I mix JJ's and Chinese.

I believe there is a switch in the 55 that allows you to swap out the 6L6's and put it EL-34's. The 34's will break up a little sooner. I do LOVE my Nomad 45 though. The Nomad has the bonus of the Extreme switch on the back of the amp. Bone crushing gain. What type of music do you play?
