Tube swap library - post your results here

This is a great idea! Swap your current V2 and V4. I also want to try a 5751 in the PI slot (V4). Many have reported nice results.

My guess is that it might bring some of the snap back.

What if you replace the 5751 with the backup Penta?

Can we talk 12" speakers for the 5:25?

Cool to hear similar experiences with Greenback clones? Care to share your settings with the bass control above noon? Cheers!

Can we talk 12" speakers for the 5:25?

I did not care much for the stock Vintage 30. I am currently using a Scumback M75 with large dust cap. The M75 is a Greenback clone and the large dust cap makes it handle high gain better than the traditional small cap Greenbacks. I am certainly enjoying the Scumback, but curious about what...

Classic jazz tone out of a 5:25 1x10

I am using the 5:25 in the 1x12 combo with a Scumback M75 with large dust cap. The speaker is a great match for most settings that I have tried. But the gain in the clean channel has been below noon all the time. Later tonight I will try it with the gain over noon.

What is the function of V5? Do you need matched triodes? Thanks!

Reviving an old thread for additional suggestions. Thanks!

Classic jazz tone out of a 5:25 1x10

No advice on round, warm tone? I guess I am back to the drawing board.

Classic jazz tone out of a 5:25 1x10

I am looking for a good starting point to get a classic jazz tone out of a 5:25 1x10 with a T-style guitar with P90 pickups. Should I stop trying to get something like this from the clean channel and try a different approach? Cheers!

The ideal way to turn off a tube amp?

I have heard electrons are afraid and tend to run away from a properly strummed Am7 chord. Really :-)

    Express 5:25-Fizz at high volume

I changed the preamp V1 tube for a EHX 12AT7 and that reduced the hizz considerably. Also a bit less gain though. You can change the tubes in V1 and V2 for even less hiss. Lastly, I have to admit that I did not bond with the 5:25 and got rid of it. I am using a solid-state until my Zinky...

    Attenuator help

I have a Weber attenuator that is quite good. http://www.tedweber.com/atten.htm I understand that Ted ships worldwide. And he replies to emails personally, so you cannot beat his customer service. THD also makes good attenuators that might be more easily available in the UK.

Removing tubes on a dual rec for lower wattage

The key thing to have in mind is that when pulling tubes out, power will be reduced and so will frequency bandwidth - you will lose some bass and some treble. The only way to keep your saturated tube tone (almost) intact and reduce your output is by using a good attenuator. EDIT: Indeed...

Removing tubes on a dual rec for lower wattage

Better to use an attenuator. I like the ones that Weber makes. THD also makes good attenuators.

    Looking for a 1x12 combo/first Mesa amp

I had a 5:25 10in. Never bonded with it. As Don said, the package is great, but it is certainly a compromise. The new 5:25 12in might take care of previous issues and still have a package smaller and lighter than the 5:50. I am waiting for a Zinky Blue Velvet 25W that I would like to test...

picked up Dual Rectifier.. what a heap of crap!

I cannot believe I read the entire thread. Like a car crash... you know is going to be bloody ugly, but you cannot stop watching. The kid is clearly not getting tired. Who is going to keep replying?

    What Mesa amp?

Returned the 5:25... after a short honeymoon the mojo was gone. Ordered a Zinky Blue Velvet 25-watt... a simpler amp. We will see if we bond.

    Express 5:25/Weber Blue Dog

Actually, the best thing to do if you are looking into Weber speakers is this... Go to the Weber site and send an email detailing your current setup and what sound or tone you are after. Be as precise as you can (bass, mids and highs... how clean a sound you want... etc.) Ted Weber himself...

    Express 5:25/Weber Blue Dog

Get a Weber Blue Dog (ceramic) 30 watts and a Weber Silver Bell (ceramic) 30 watts in that 2x12. I have heard a EL84 loaded amp with that cab with very good results. EDIT: The Blue Dog (ceramic) 30 watts plus the 1230-55 (ceramic) 30 should also work with good results.
