    Mark V price hike

I only wish we could get them that cheap in the UK. I bought my head used and paid the equivilant of about $2,960.00. New it would be more like $3,750.00

    Video Idea: Mark V 6L6 vs EL34

Thanks haggertys. I am glad I listened to this before I fell for the tube change hype. There really is no appreciable difference. In the end, it is all just a bunch of guys sitting around splitting hairs over the micro difference in sound between one good amp sound and another increadibly...

    Head or Combo?

I love my Mark V, but I wish I had not sold my Soldano. I am sure it depends upon what kind of player you are, and what kind of tones you prefer, but I guarantee you will regret parting with the Soldano.

    Walter Trout & MKV

I think Walters best album is his live recording 'No More Fish Jokes'. To me he is just one of those players who was born to play live. Most real Blues players sound best live in my opinion. It must just be the atmosphere of a real gig that comes over in their playing. Having had my Mark V for a...

    Mark V - Am I Nuts?(Pls Help!)

You will always get more tone from lower output pickups than any kind of actives in my opinion. And there is more gain than needed in the Mark V. But if you are used to a high gain with active pickup sound (usually a bit colourless to my ears) then it might take you a while to adjust. If you can...

New Mark V owner. Question about the combo I bought used...

I like that word. 'Pissiness' I am going to save that one for future use.

    voltage convert for MarkV

I don't know what your voltage is in Thailand, but here in the UK we have 240v and lots of people buy American amps and run them through step down transformers. They are very reliable, it is just one more bit of gear you have to lug around with you.

    Graphic EQ.

And was it as effective as the graphic on the Mark V?

    soldano

Having recently owned a Soldano, I would say that the quality of build is equal. The quality of sound is equal to the quality of build. But they are totally different animals in the way they achieve tone, and therefore the way you use them. The most obvious thing being that the Soldano is an old...

    Graphic EQ.

The Deuce or the Mark V?
  11. T

    Graphic EQ.

Having spent some time with my recently purchased Mark V, I have to say that the singularly most impressive tone shaping tool is the very simple looking 5 band graphic equaliser. I have not had an amp before that has one built in like this, but it makes me wonder how useful it might be in the...

Quick ? about my new Mark V

I don't have the issue because my (Cornford) cab has side handles. But wouldn't it look so much better if Mesa had made the Mk V cabinet just a bit deeper to safely house the whole reverb tank?

More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

I am basically in agreement with everything Charles says. Mine is also a Stage 1 Deuce. I unfortunately don't have the luxury or the need to keep both the Mark V and the Deuce. I also have a Marshall that I bought new 30 years ago and could never sell. So something has to go. I put the Mark on...

More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

I still haven't had a chance to play with the band. I'm not sure there is a band anymore! But I have played a couple of single coil guitars throught the Deuce since doing the mod. My Strat with Van Zandt Rock pickups was just too bright and sparkly. It reminded me of what I didn't like about the...

    Breakup with treble pickup. Normal?

I get the same thing on my Deuce. The effect got worse since adding the Bias Mod. I don't have a great need for super clean sounds myself, so it is not generally a problem The only way to get really clean sounds is to back off on the gain and master volumes and roll down the volume on the...

Am I the only guy who likes the Stiletto Stage 1?

I run my Stiletto through a Cornford cab wit 2 x V30's. They are bright generally, and I am sure they contrubuted to my dislike of the Stiletto sound in the first place. I have used this cab for some time with other amps including Cornford Mk50 II, Mesa Roadster, Mesa Rectoverb, Mesa Mk V and...

Mark V Head and Stiletto Deuce For Sale in UK

I have recently modified my Stiletto Deuce Head Stage 1 with Mansfields Bias Mod Kit. It is everything they say it is, and more. After 18 months of hating this amp, I now cannot stop playing through it. Just before I did the mod, I bought myself a Mark V head to replace the Stiletto. Beautiful...

    Adjustable-Bias-Kit in Stiletto GREAT SOUND!

Another great post from Charles. Really useful info. Thanks. And you can buy a single bias probe from Mansfields.

Am I the only guy who likes the Stiletto Stage 1?

I like mine a lot better now it is modified (bias mod).

Any rumors about adding reverb to the Stilettos???

I don't see why they would bother really. I have a Stage 1 and a Mark V. The reverb on the Mark is pretty good, but it is one basic effect with one controllable feature, the reverb knob. Every decent effects unit out there has multiple reverb types available and all programmable. I have never...
