Wiring through GT-8

Hi!

I'm using a BOSS GT-8's stereo outputs with multiple speakers and I am not really sure about which value of load (4, 8, 16, etc..) I should use.

Would this be a correct wiring?

Mesa DR 4 Ohm out -> single input GT-8 double output -> 2x(8ohm speaker set)

If you are trying to blow up both your Dual Recto and GT-8, that should do the trick.

Read the manuals for both pieces of gear before you hurt yourself.

The input of the GT-8 is for an instrument, not for the 100W of power coming out of the amp. The speaker jacks on the amp are for SPEAKERS.

Plug your guitar into the GT-8, and the GT-8 into the input of the amp.

You could use the SLAVE out to send your amp's tone to the GT-8, but you will need seperate amps and speakers for the GT-8's outputs. You also always need to have a speaker (or dummy load) hooked up to the amp so you don't blow the output tranny.

The GT-8 is an effects unit, not an attenuator/dummy load. If you connect the speaker output of the amp to the input on the GT-8, you will most likely blow the output transformer on the amp and do major damage to the GT-8. I know this has already been stated, but I believe it needed to be repeated just in case.

You will need at the very least a second power amplifier (pending you've got two speaker cabs). A simple way to run this setup would be effects send from amp 1 into the input of the GT-8. Then the left output from the GT-8 would go to the effects return of amp 1, and the right output would go to the power amp. Or, if you have another tube amp laying about that has an effects loop, you can connect the right output of the GT-8 into the effects return of that second amp. I did this with my GT-8. Output left went back to my Mesa Roadster and output right went into the effects return of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe combo. It was different, but it worked pretty well.

guitar>gt8 (put here wahs and distortion pedals)>input of amp>effects loop send>gt8 (put delay, reverb, etc)>efx loop return

Then, assuming you have two cabinets:

4ohm of amp>8ohm mesa speaker cab
4ohm of amp>8ohm mesa speaker cab


This setup will allow you to use the gt8 at its highest capacity--as a 4 cable method efx unit. The gt8 also has capabilities of switching the channels on the amp. Please read both manuals in detail to get the small stuff.

This would not give the TS the stereo capacity he is wanting. Also, the GT-8 can only switch between two channels, and that's only if the channel jack has a jack/sleeve kind of setup. With something as complex as the Roadster, the GT-8 could be set up to control channel changes via MIDI using an Amp Gizmo or something of the like.

The Gt-8 is an extremely complex and powerful beast. Anyone who has a GT-8 and is not a member of this forum will be permanently lost in a world of confusion.

The Gt-8 can run any 2 amps in stereo from outputs A & B and you'll sound much better if you connect to the FX Return Loop jacks on your amp. That's provided your amps have a Series FX Loop.
