Hi all
I'm trying to put together the various pieces of gear I've collected in the years in an organic and flexible setup.
I mainly have Mesa amps, a Triaxis and a DC3 combo (whose electronics I'll be fitting in a custom built short head cabinet for rackmount purpose) which I'd double with a second one to use the 2 preamps and power amps as separate sections: this way I'd have 4 different sounds from the preamps and a stereo power section. I'd accomplish this with a GCX switcher and a stereo line mixer for parallel FX and stereo routing to the power section.
Now, I'm doing some connection tests before assembling the rack (and getting the second DC) and I found that if I plug the Triaxis straight in the FX return of the DC I get a muffled, dark sound no matter how I set the controls on the Triaxis; also, Triaxis' volume doesn't work, I either get a very low level (at 1 on the volume pot) or a notch above but it stays the same even if I turn it up way loud.
FX level on the DC is 100% wet, and if I do a standard connection with an FX unit (I tried with an Eventide Eclipse) the loop works fine and the combo plays and sounds fine.
I should also say that the DC FX loop is parallel, but the manual says that if the control is set to 100% wet the amp can be used as a plain power section.
I also tried to plug the Triaxis in the front end input of the DC and it looks like evrything is working as it should: I get all of my standard preset sounds and volume output works fine too.
Next I'll ty to plug the Triaxis in a regular power amp (i'll have a VHT 50.2.50 at hand tomorrow) and see if it works OK.
In the meantime, any ideas on why I'm getting this strange behaviour? Should I modify the FX loop to serial? any Impedance issues I should be aware of?
Thanx
