I have 3 amps:

DC-5 Head
Tremoverb Head
Stiletto Ace Head

My question is, which 2 amps of the 3 are the furthest from eachother in terms of tone? Or, more specifically, which 2 cover the most ground if only two could be kept?

I know what my opinion is already obviously, I just want to see if the wise minds of the board have the same ear as I do.

Thanks in advance for the replies and opinions. :)

Well the stiletto is defintly the keeper, the DC and the Tremoverb are going to be closer in tone, but if i had my choice I would keep the tremoverb and the stiletto.

I have a Stiletto and a DC-10 because they are so different from one another. The cleans and tight overdrive of the DC is great but the brutal nature of EL34s in the Stiletto is like icing on my cake. If I wern't so lazy, and had a bigger car, I'd take both amps to the gig.

I've owned a Tremoverb and now own a Laney which is similar to a Stiletto, but I can say that the Tremoverb is nowhere near the British tone of the Laney or a Stiletto. I don't know what a DC sounds like, but my guess would be that the Stiletto is the most different sounding.

Right on. I see it as either:

Stiletto - TOV

or

Stiletto - DC

I just cannot figure out which is the furthest spread. My mind changes a little every time I play the DC or TOV.

Suppose that is why I brought it to the public opinion.

If you are going to get rid of one of them, DC or TOV, which would be the easiest to replace later if you have a change of heart?

Oh crap!

I never thought of that point. That is a very good point. I think the TOV might be harder but I might be wrong.

I really have no idea.

it would be much easier if you could compare them in a linear fashion in terms of gain. but considering their relationship exists more in a trinity, this is tought one. they each do something the other two cant.... hmmmmm.

if it were me i'd keep the stiletto and get a roadster as it kinda bridges the tremoverb and dc. still a tought one though

This is also a really good point. They are all different amps indeed but as someone pointed out already, I think the DC and the TOV are the closest with the Stiletto being out on its own.

Anyone else out there with some infinite wisdom?

keep the tremoverb and the stiletto. to me that covers the most ground as the tremoverb is one of the most tonally versatile rectos out there doing anything from jazz cleans, to blusey grit to over the top gain.... your stiletto then fills in the gaps. I think if you look at it the dc5, it really doesnt cover as broad a ground as the tremoverb.

Again, IF I could squash the TOV and the ACE together, I think I would die happy. :)
