Reposting in the section because other one wasn't getting much traffic...

So, I've decided to get a 4x12 instead of a 2x12 for my Triaxis/2:90. Teh gf says that a 2x12 would look wayyyyyy too sad sitting in a corner of our room. So a 4x12 it is. But which one?

The traditional Rectifier cab is now called the Stiletto cab, right? Is it very different than the other Rectifier cab? Oversized or something...

Do angled and straight sound different or is it a purely aesthetic difference?

I'm thinking of getting a traditional Recto/stiletto cab, but if the differences aren't THAT huge, then I'll just get the first 4x12 Recto with a reasonable price on eBay.

Speaking of prices, whats a good price for the 4x12's in good condition?

i'm in love with my oversized. i got it for $500 through my local guitar center. it's really all about what suits you though. play around and pick what fits your style the best. good luck.

Bump. Oversized or traditional. DIFFERENCES, PLEASE!

The oversized version gives you more bottom, so metal players will prefer that. Mark Tremonti says the same thing in one of his YouTube videos.

Lets see if I can help.

Oversized: These sound huge. Big cab, big bass! relaxed mids.

Traditional... now Stiletto: This cab is a smaller cab, similar in size to Marshall cabs. These have a tighter bass response and a kick in the mids for better note definition. Great Cab

Halfback: Now these are awesome. These are smaller is size also. Bottom is closed, top is open. You get tight bass and warm-airy-3d sound. Mesa now makes these in the Oversized version known as the RK cab, but not as awesome.

As for angled vs straight. Some say you get more highs with the angled, but thats because the speaker is now pointing at you.

I've heard people say that straight cabs have more bass. But I have owned both straight and angled cabs, and could not really hear a difference between them. So far I have not found a cabinet that I have liked more than my Orange 4x12. I keep buying other cabs if I can find one at a good price. I compare it w/ the orange and give the band mates a listen. So far the Orange has beat out a mesa halfback w/ vintage 50's (still a great cab IMHO), a marshall jcm900 and a Marshall AV cab. I am looking to put it up against a rectifier cab or stilletto cab soon. If possible you should stop by as music store and try out some cabs...see what you like. I Hope my rambling was in someway helpful. Goodluck!
