What's up with Slumdog Millionaire stealing all the oscars?

I guess it was because it was a crap year all round for movies...

Hardly seen anything decent this year. Benjimin Button was mind sappingly boring. Haven't seen Slumdog yet, so can't comment on how good it is. I am not paying to see it at the cinema, probably wait for it to come to Blockbusters....

Nice to see a movie from somewhere outside of the US do well, though.

Who cares? It's just a gold plated lead bowling trophy handed from one over paid ego-maniac to another. Do you see oscars for best electrician or carpenter or teacher or any of a thousand more worthy professions? No. Why? Because the rest of the world has there egos reasonably under control. Hollywood is after all the ultimate mutual admiration society. Their insane salaries aren't enough to stroke their ego's so they have to give bowling trophies out also proclaiming one or the other "THE BEST". They are after all just doing what we all did as children, playing pretend. :roll:
