im in the market for new instrument cables..nothing 500 miles long...25 ft and under would do just fine
in your opinion whats the best instrument cable out there?
ive always heard good things about monster cables...
im looking for something thats going to last me a good long time
im willing to put out the money now instead of investing and re-investing in junk 2 months or whatever at a time
any other ideas?

Stay far away from Monster intrument cables. THEY SUCK!!! Its the longest, most expensive antenna I've plugged into my Dual Recto. It looks nice and is built tough but is always picking up al kinds of radio signals. I changed it out twice at GC and told them what was going on and were happy to give me a new one. Came home and tried it out. Same problems. Went back about a week later and changed it out for another new one and same problem. I plugged in an old Fender cable and quiet as can be. I use Monster for speaker and patch cables and they work great. No problems and built tough.
The Monster Performer 500 is the one that was giving me problems....Good Luck.

my whole rig is wired with mogami.

but for the actual instrument cable...evidence melody or lyric HG hands down. personally I have
2 of the melody 10 footers. One day I'll upgrade to the lyric HG, no doubt.

But plug either direct into the amp with nothing else in between and compare them against anything out there
and you will hear the difference. it's one of the cheapest (comparatively speaking of course) upgrade you can do for
your rig and the result is phenomenal.

keep in mind that cable takes time to "break in" both in flexibility and tone, evidence says about 40 hours for 100% break in.
so if you like the sound out of the box, just think, it will only get better. ;)

 Instrument cables have to "break in?" Good grief. Does the wiring in a new home have to break in before the ceiling fans act right? Don't fall for the hype. There is always some furu out there with some mystical crapola willing to take your money with promises of superior tone, if you will only purchase *his* magical widget! As long as the cables are adequately shielded, *any* brand should be OK. The problem with the "Monster" brand is that the center conductor is often too large, resulting in a loss of signal (signal drop), especially on the longer cables. The current produced by the guitar's pickups is very small, and it's hard for it to push through a large cable!
