First guitar was an old Vantage the brown ones with the lighter wood stripes in the middle (I am sure a few of you guys know exactly what I'm talking about). First Amp was a Stereo my dad had rigged up to accept a guitar jack. Thing sounded horrible I had natural distortion from the amp not being able to handle the input.

My first "real" amp was a Peavey Backstage 110.

My 1st was a 40th ann dark blue US strat. bought it after an old girlfriend left me in high school. upside learned guitar and still at it after 12 years, downside... I wasn't as warm at night. 1st amp was an old leslie that was my dad's.

First setup was a loaner in 1983 13 years old.
Hohner Black Les Paul Copy and some little crapper amp that I don't remember the name.

The first that I owned was a year later.....
Kramer Focus 3000 W/Floyd Rose (no fine tuners) and a little Gorilla practice amp.

First pedal was a Boss Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal.

Man...those were the days when I was going to be a rock god!
Brings back memories of hashing out Night Ranger tunes...learning of Yngwie. An older friend of mine who had a guitar as well came into my bedroom when I first got it and I was trying to learn "Beat It" (yeah right!) and he laughed as he threw my tape across the room and forced me to learn Holy Diver and than Rock You Like A Hurricane. Gosh I hated that metal crap. I remember sitting in front of MTV trying to learn guitar riffs. The MTV theme song among other things. I hooked up with Rock and Metal (Ratt! sweeeeet) because there was so little from The Thompson Twins that could help me learn guitar. Too funny huh?

A Crate Strat ripoff guitar was my first..Yes you read that correct a crate.. Gotta love getting taken at the pawn shops. I played that through some terrible little practice amp that i don't even remember the name of. Best part was the 3ft. cable i had, i got to sit right on top of the little practice amp and learn basic chords.

Charvel model 1 in pearl white,i still remember what it smells like and Crate amp not sure what model ,it had reverb and chorus, this was around 1988

Some cheaper Washburn and a fender 25 watt sidekick, I miss neither, my guitar weighed a ton and my drummer laughed at my tone, thats why I seek the ultimate in drummer crushing amps...

oh the memories.

Lotus Les Paul copy and a Gorilla 10 watt amp.

I then bought the Overlord pedal (Dean Markley?) which had a 12ax7 tube in it and was hooked.

It was MANY years before I could afford my first tube amp (Carvin).

I still have the skeleton of the Lotus somewhere, the neck is so warped now as to be more fitting to shoot arrows from....

My first electric guitar was a Memphis Les Paul copy. Not bad for a cheap copy, it had a set-in neck. I put a DiMarzio Super Distortion in it.

My first amp was a '60s solid state Sears amp head that my guitar teacher gave me. It was kinda crappy, but I loved it. It got super loud. My dad took me to Guitar Center and got me a MXR Distortion+ (that I wish I still had) and a Celestion speaker. Not a cab, mind you, just the bare speaker. :D

I was 9 yrs. old (1968 ) and my neighbors gave me an electric Imperial guitar with a small s.s amp with no speaker .The strings seemed about an inch off the fingerboard . So I searched the house and found my dad's Revere reel to reel 1/4 tape machine and noticed it had a similar jack for a microphone .
I plugged in and it was very quiet , then I noticed the plug on the mike was a shorty style ....pulled the phone plug out part way and I was floored by the saturation /distortion/feedback ! That was it . Done deal . totally hooked .
When dad got a speaker for the cheapo amp , I used the speaker out to run it from the tape machine . Sometimes I wonder what my neighbors thought of the howling cacophany that poured from my basement . Dad never saw that tape deck again , but he sure heard it .

Did I mention it was a tube unit ?

Guitar: a single humbucker jackson copy that just said "Korea" on the headstock
Amp: an old record player my dad drilled a 1/4" jack into... then one of these

Ibanez gsa 160 with a stagg 15 W amp.

the gsa 60 was ok for the price, but had a really bad tremolo.
the amp was crap.

traded the gsa for a talman. the talman was way better.

Ovation Acoustic.

I eventually bought a Fender MIA strat (I still have) and I played through a Peavey Envoy 110.

I've since upgraded, but that strat still rocks. Still have the Ovation too. :)

epiphone strat knock off, with a squier bullet amp. both were used, costing me a total of 90$ at the age of 12. you have to start somewhere. I would not have even known what to do with my lonestar....

Gibson L6S and a Yamaha G30. Wish I still had the Gibby, the Yamaha was ok with a MXR Dist+ back in 1981. Man, time has flown.....

My first electric guitar was a Fender Squier and my first amp was a Traynor 15 watts. I think it costed me $250 CAD...I still remember how happy I was the day I bought these...

The very first guitar I had was a second-hand no-name acoustic that was almost unplayable.

My first electric was a bolt-on Lotus Les Paul copy.

My first amp was a 25-watt solid state Rickenbacker.
