I just picked up another set of ernie balls to try out, since i forgot what they were like. They actually are not that bad....

I might stick with these for a while

Was using Ernie Ball Light Top Heavy Bottoms for over 10years, but recently switched to Dunlop strings. Fantastic sounding strings with good attack. Love them.

Dean Markley Blue Steel 10-46 on the electricalls. Elixir Nano-Web med/lt on the acoustics.
Whenever I've strayed on either lately, I'm reminded how great both of these are for me.

I used to use Ernie Balls back in the 90's/early 2000's but I always hated that they would become dull sounding so quickly, so I switched to D'Addario and I have been hooked since. However, I don't know when it happened, but when Ernie Ball changed their packaging to the sealed wrappings, it seems that, for me at least, their strings now last longer.

Normal Tuning 6 String: EXL110 10-46
Normal Tuning 7 String: EXL110-7 10-59
Drop C Tuning 6 String: Alternate between Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky (11-54) & Not Even Slinky (12-56)

Regards,
Juan

I was using EJ nickel rockers .010-.052. But I always had trouble finding them. And not one mfg is carried by all the shops around here except D'add's. So that whats I play now simply because they're the easiest to find anytime.

Using DAddario XL (.009-.042) Nickel Wound for a long time now. Why? Because they always seem cheapest around.

No matter what strings I use, after a 4 hour gig they are SHOT.

I can never dare to try a 2 nighter with the same set of strings (of any brand I know of) or I'll be picking up my back up axe and putting on spares during breaks.

A guy working at a music store told me the other day how his strings last 2 years.......

...by keeping the guitar in a vacuum sealed case?   I'd need a tetinis shot if I tried to keep my strings on for
2 years...which, that wouldn't happen because they would all be broken and have to be replaced by the end of the second month.

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!Is 'tetinis' a cross between tetanus and tinnitus?

I kept some strings on my Les Paul for over one year once. The wound strings started coming apart at the frets and the guitar just didn't hold tuning the same way . . . New strings are just so much more bright and punchy!

I prefer Gibson Les Paul 10 - 46s.

Mine last getting on for that - a year or more usually - and yes, I do play the guitars, including band practices and gigs. I do keep them clean though - I wipe them down after playing, and use a cloth with a little WD40 on it if they look dull. I love the tone of old, settled-in strings. What kills them in the end is not so much dull tone but the wound strings indenting over the frets so they rattle or go out of intonation.

But, I have very dry skin, don't sweat much and must have fairly benign body chemistry. I know other people who can kill a set of strings stone dead - both for tone and visibly corroded - in an hour or two.

I hate absolutely brand-new strings. I don't mind them after a few hours of play, or deliberately aging them by slackening right off and re-tuning a few times, but I can't stand that rattly brash tin-can sound from a brand new set.

When I do the Malcolm Young thing in an AC/DC cover band, I use Gibson 12 - 56. Gets the authentic sound, cause that is what Malcolm uses.

For guitars other than Gretsch, I use Ernie Ball 10 - 46 on my Fenders and copies, D'Addario 9 - 46 (light top heavy bottom) on my Gibson's and Gibbo copies. I also have some GHS strings to try out. I used Dean Markley strings back in the day and I was happy with those also.

Been using Dean Markley's for a LONG time....010 - .046 I've just had very good luck with them, and they seem to last for me. I've probably broken only 5 or 6 in the last 15 years??? and I play pretty hard sometimes. In the late 80's I had like 11 guitars in my harem, and i was using them ALL, so I was changing the strings on SOMETHING about every other day!! I got pretty good at it too!!!

DR pure blues 11-50 for Strat (E flat tunning)
DR tite fit 11-52 for Les Paul
EB hybrid Slinky 9-46 for Tele

I like the Gibson vintage set too, but they are hard to get in my town so the Pure Blues generally cover my vintage tone needs. I often do my practice on the Telecaster so I like using the slightly lighter top strings to help keep my finger tips in place. Nobody else gets to see or hear those wimpy strings

I used to use Dr's but i found they didnt last me as long as they should. Ended up swapping back to Daddario and they seem to be the perfect strings for me. Use 9's in E, 10's in D and 11's in drop C. I find once you give them a few stretches when you change them that they hold the tuning really well. Better than other ones ive tried, including Slinkys
