Channel 1 Clean, Channel 2 Crunch, Channel 3 Mark IV

Pair of Bogner 1x12 cubes

Pedal Board = Fulltone Wah, Fulltone OCD (For Slight Break Up in Channel 1), MXR Phase 90, H2O Liquid Chorus, TC Electronics Nova Delay

1976 Les Paul

We play 90s hard rock, Foo Fighters, STP, Chili Peppers, White Zombie, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Weezer, Velvet Revolver

Do you guys play live in LA? I live in LA bro, my main thing is 90s hard rock and modal jazz/funk, bring it on!

We play mostly in the San Fernando Valley and Simi Valley. Our next show is in Simi valley at the arena on April 17th

all you metal players! do you just play old school metal, like metallica, slayer, etc. or more modern stuff too? I've already asked this question, but im wondering what you guys do for a mark type heavy rhythm, btw im not after the recto sound, too fizzy for me, even with the massive low end!

I have a MKV and a Rectifier. By newer Metal, to me that excludes the death metal and stuff where the singer is screaming in a low undiscernable voice. I saw Gogiera, the death metal French band opening for Lamob of God. They sounded terrible live. The tone seemed a bit like what you would get after stabbing the headstock of your guitar into a speaker and then starting to play. To each his own. There are probably people that think Metallica, Rob Zombie, Alice In Chains, Petrucci all sound like the spawn of Satan. Oh well...

Yeah, I dont include death metal in there. If I wanted something THAT heavy, id just get a amp with shitty/okay.. clean channels and all focused on the heavy, like a dual rec or 6505 or whatnot. I'm talkin about stuff like... hmm. Maybe its better to describe it as hard rock. Recently I saw Shinedown live, guitarist uses 2 dual recs, and his clean was decent, nothin amazing, but the heaviness was great! It was heavy, and that was good, but when he played, i heard a wall of sound. I could tell when he switched chords due to the heavy bass pounding, but I never heard him distinctively, even when he solo'd i guess the soundguy didnt boost him. So something like hard rock like shinedown, velvet revolver, stuff like that.

I listened to the Mark V soundclips on http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=965182&content=music&songcount=37&offset=0&currentPage=1

I'm impressed, sounds very good. I'm just hoping I don't finally receive the Mark V this friday and then not like the more heavier tones. When not with my band, I play at home to mp3's from my ipod for fun. I know I shouldnt (and dont) chase CD tones because of so much post-production along with stereo and etc. so I just try to set the gain right and knobs on my current amp and play. My amp lacks mids though, so when playing with a friend or band(dont do it a lot but i do) it just doesnt really cut. I don't want to just get the mark V and then after tweaking it for a week, want to send it back for a refund (shipping would be 150...) and then get something like a roadster.

First off, I tried the Roadster combo, and I did not like it very much, but I did not crank it AT ALL and i didnt fiddle with it very long. Second, I have a brand new set of 6 preamp tubes and a rectifier tube from dougstubes.com and i heard changin the stocks helps it meat up and clarify and whatnot. Just having second thoughts.

By the way I'm 17 and bought this amp with money i made from working for a long time (after saving it all) and being so young, I'm still in the kind of "shred!" metal kind of phase, except I definitely dont like ONLY metal. I love blues, alternative, rock along with more gainy stuff, hard rock, metalcore, metal (metallica, etc)

Just want to spend my money in the best way possible, thanks!

   That is the ****!
More guys your age should be motivated! When I was 18 I got the hell out of town and got a job in the oil fields. I busted my butt because I was tired of being poor!
I'm an electrical contractor and I'm gonna be 40 this year. I can outwork (even running a shovel) every guy we have hired. We've been through 64 employees in the last 4 years. Most of them on big commercial jobs. It seems like America has turned lazy.
Keep it the F up! Oh yeah, and would you mind telling my nephew to move his *** too?

Well said Monsta-Tone.

Congrats on working your *** off to make a lifelong purchase. This amp can and will do everything you need from an amplifier if you're willing to spend the time with it.

I play mostly hard rock, but dabble in everything and the Mark V has renewed my love for true guitar tone. I will be working on a new album soon and will definitely post the results. I intend to use the Mark V as much as possible.

I must again say how impressed I am that a "youngster" today set his mind to something, stuck to it and made it happen. I love it! and I love the Mark V!

It's great that you are buying it outright too! When I graduated from ITT, I bought myself a Lee Jackson head and cab for $1,250, but I borrowed the money. By the time I got it paid off, I had actually spent over $2,000!

Cash is KING!!!!!!!

Thanks guy! Yeah making money is great. I don't have a job anymore due to school and things but.... me and my friends are probably gonna do a band thing and play on a friends boat for dinner cruises 3x a week, weekly. We would get paid 40dollars for 2hrs per person a night! Great way to fill the bank funds again, we just need to learn 2hrs worth of blues/classic rock/hawaiian/reggae due to the fact that we live in hawaii, and the cruises are mainly for tourists! time to deal with all the hassles of gettin practice spaces, times, and learning all the songs to play them live perfectly!

You guys think, with enough time spending, I'll be able to get heavy sounds to satisfy my modern metal appetite? haha. I heard John petrucci (love em') uses a overdrive for his rhythms but turns it off for leads to get a less gainy sound, is that true? Some people do the opposite, stomp on overdrive for solo's and turn it off for rhythms. I hope I fall in love with this beast completely, because I don't want to have to send it back, get a roadster head (MORE shipping) and then want the mark back, HELL NO!

:D Since I started the thread, I'm gonna totally derail it......

What island are you on? I spent 11 years on Maui and miss it everyday! In fact, I spoke with my old boss yesterday and he really wants me to come back!

I live on the big island! But ive been to maui, oahu, kaui on vacations before. Maui is a beautiful island! ive lived here since I was 7 but moved a little between so Id say i lived here 7-8years. When im done with high school I plan to move to either arizona/california/washington and apply to musical colleges to major in music! I definitely need more band experience before then though. I have a little, but not much!

:D Right on!

Before you move, ask around as much as you can about the music scene, weather, cost of living, etc. Arizona is a hard place to make a living in construction, but I don't know about music. It is litterally hot as hell though!

awesome! thanks. I have some great friends that are musicians here. I've actually been in a half a million dollar recording studio with my friends for the band hes in, its awesome! I try to soak up all the info I can. Anyway, I'm gonna mess with the mark V like crazy when its here. Right now I have a Line 6 Spider valve head, its alright, but when playing heavy stuff I find myself just playing the rectifier mode most of the time, and for the past 3months ive been using an EQ pedal in the loop, until last week. Can't wait til tomorrow!

The Mark V is a gas killer, I only have two amps... the Mark V and a Blues Jr.

I play...

- Metal, Nu-Metal, Mathcore, etc... I start at Sabbath skip the 80's and go from there.
- Reggae... Roots, Ska, and Rock Steady, Specials... lots of reggae ... sometimes I'll use the blues jr.
- Punk/crust... Oi, Casualties, Nausea, Bad Brains, Aus Rotten, NYC & DC Hardcore etc...
- Some traditional blues but I have a blues Jr. I like for that, but I get great blues sounds from the Mark V when I use it for blues.
- Pink Floyd... my first girlfriend was a deadhead. Floyd was as close as I got.
- Police, Clash, Ramones, etc...
- my own stuff which is like Iceburn, Candiria, Sabbath, Sepultura, bad brains, and John Coltrane mixed up

Effects for Metal -All Mesa Mark V and 412 Recto Cab maybe some delay and or an NS2... but all you need is Mesa

sometimes i'll use an MXR classic fuzz for a Sabbath tune here or there just to push it over the top... like for a song like 'Symptoms of the Universe'

Reggae - just Mark v only on tweed with a some of the reverb

punk - all mesa

blues mesa tweed low watt some reverb

I try not to use too many effects... unless I'm playing stuff like police, primus, or rage against the machine or pink floyd stuff... but you need a phaser 'at least' some chorus.

Most times though I just play plugged right into the M-V and leave the pedalboard off to the side.

I'm really gassing for a Mark V.
What kinds of music/tones are you guys playing with yours?

Loud *** rock and roll.

What FX are you using with yours?

Wah?

What guitars?

Les Paul w/ P90s
Les Paul w/ Hums

Just trying to figure out what kinds of tones I can get out of it! The nearest one is in Albuquerque, which is 200 miles away, so I want to make sure I do as much research as I can before heading up there!

I've been using mine for everything from AC/DC to Crowbar to Electric Wizard.

I prefer channel 2/Crunch for my heavy rhythm sound and use it for everything from AC/DC to NoFX to Metallica. I think they notched the mids a bit to make it tighter without needing to resort to extreme EQ settings on the G-EQ like you do with channel 3. There are also times where I swear that the midrange is more distorted than the bottom end, so it's got this in your intense clarity to it when chording.

I play Jazz, rock, country. The other nite we started a gig doing jazz standards used 10 watt mode chan 1 in fat mode a guy came up to me and said he could'nt believe I was playing through a Boogie...(they are only for metal ...he..... he) then we went to classic rock 45 watt chan 2 and 3. rec tube on. you can play ANY style that you want just keep tweeking....
