I'm curious. What kind of Cab and speaker arrangement do you use with your rectifier? I'm currently playing through a Diamond Spec Op 4 x 12 cab with crisscross Celestion V-30's and G-12H's ($1100 new). I'm wondering how it would compare to a recto cab? Anyone have any experience they would like to share? It would be greatly appreciated..

I am a huge fan of the Diamond stuff. Their amps are pretty cool, and I have never thought to try the Greenbacks with the Vintage 30's.

The Recto cab is probably a very good contender to the Spec Op cab.

Either way, both cabs are awesome.

It would make the cab rated at 100 watts, so it's probably not the best idea..

I like my Mills 4x12 cab. I think they're flawless. You hear the same thing right in front of the amp or standing to the side. It's tight, loud, and clear, but the thing weighs a damn ton.

Oh yeah good point.

I think I may actually get a Mills this summer. Try a Vintage 30 / G12T-100 combo.

Unless you're cranking the amp, 100 watts wouldn't be an issue.

You're typically only using 10-30 watts of power on a 100 watt amp, unless you're playing without a mic on your cab at a large venue.

I'm using a Recto cab. I'm wanting to snag a Stiletto cab though.

Still, I wouldn't push it (personally). If you blew one at a gig, you're done for the night, unless somebody else has another cab you can use or you have backup speakers (never seen that before).

I was wondering about that since the new 5150III cab has 20 watt Celestion speakers, and the matching head is 120 watts!!!!!

Speakers tend to be conservatively rated though. Greenbacks have been used with 100 watt amps for decades. A 100 watt amp typically puts out around 150 watts at full volume. A DR is in the neighborhood of 170 watts.

Part of the appeal of Greenbacks is their tendency to breakup (distort).

I like the Mills idea, maybe I'll do that. What kind of cab from Mills do you all have? The 412B, 412B Classic, or the 412B-EVM?

Also, I think the Diamond I am currently using has 2 60watt Vintage 30's and 2 30watt G12H's - Wouldn't that make it 180watts if wired in parallel - 8 olms?

I think it has to do with the fact that you're not going to push that full wattage through a half stack. If you have the volume maxed (or even close to it), then chances are you're running more than just one 4x12. You need volume that one 4x12 isn't going to supply.

ATM, I'm running my Stiletto Trident through a 2x12 equipped with 10 watt speakers that I pulled from an old organ. So I'm pushing 150 watts into a 20 watt enclosure. I can get to band volumes with no problems.

Speaker ratings only are a concern when you're running massive volume. If you're getting the power section of a Recto to distort, you're too loud for an unmic'd gig anyway. That's where your wattage rating comes from. It's the amount of power the power section can supply CLEANLY. If there is any distortion coming from your power section, you're pushing more than 100 watts on a DR. If you need that kind of volume, you're going to be running more than just one 4x12 typically.

412B. I wouldn't mind trying one with EVMs, but it weighs almost 150 pounds and is like $500 more than a Celestion loaded cab.

I'm using a Marshall JCM 800 slant cab with my TR. It has the 75 watt speakers in it. When I use a straight cab and the slant, it's enough to knock you over!
