Well, I guess the MKV is indeed a reality...

Not that it is a surprise to anyone here in this forum... Two people who attended a John Petrucci Clinic heard it straight from the man's mouth...

JP recently got to play the prototype Mark V. He was very impressed with it.

When he said that, I knew it was time to start saving up.

Dreamrycher said:
Yeah, me too. The delight in his facial expressions when he mentioned it was enough to sell me one. :D

BigEvil said:
Exactly. He seemed very excited about it.

Maybe he was fooling around.

But I hope the Mark IV will drop in price a little.
I think the Mk IV will drop more than a little after a V comes out. Watch for "clearance" sales of the IV, that would generally give an indication of a new model coming out.
I don't think there's much to clear out. So, I'm doubting a major price change.

Not on new ones, but if there's a MkV, and it's as good as everyone hopes, I think the market will flood with MkIV's and you'll see them under a grand used for a while.

oh no! time to sell my mark iv huh? not that i would buy a mark v anyways, i'd just like to reap the profits of getting my mark iv so cheap.

god I hope so , Id' love to pick up a medium/wide body head for under a grand :D

I don't think that the prices will drop very much if at all... I mean, the only people going after the Mark V would be fanboys of whoever is using them (Petrucci). And believe it or not, guitarists Vs. Huge Petrucci fanboys is a very small ratio.

Mesa doesn't let dealers set their own prices, I severely doubt they would allow "clearance" pricing. Anybody ever seen any dealer Boogie for sale at anything less than retail?

I'm going to go out on a huge limb, here, and opine that the Mark Series is dead, Petrucci notwithstanding. (Just what do you expect him to say? "Oh, yeah, I've got three in my garage"??? He gave the easy answer, and the fanboys go the eff away.)
Now, because, as we all know, the short heads are no more, the "next generation" wouldn't even look remotely like the Mark IVs we've come to know and love.
The "Mark V", if you want to call it that, would probably be built on the same platform as the Recto heads.
Interchangeable parts is cheaper; just ask Smith & Wesson.
It would probably have four channels, no shared EQ, interchangeable power tubes/power levels, a gigantic foot switch, front and back panels with more knobs than the Shuttle... Oh, wait a minute... they already make the Road King.
Never mind...

^Mesa does allow discounts, but only when the specifically authorize it. Such was the case with the Stiletto I when the Stiletto II came out.

I read an interview w/RS where he said there probably would be a MKV, and that it would be a simpler version of the IV. 'Course, that was quite a few years ago, and I have no idea where I read it!

If the "Mark V" (if there even is one), is, in fact, "simpler" than the MarkIV, I'll be very glad I recently bought one of the last MarkIV short heads available. I was guessing that a possible MarkV would reduce features as a manufacturer reaction to the common complaint that the MarkIV is "too complicated" and "difficult to dial in." Could you imagine Mesa going in the OTHER direction? Making the MarkIV even more complicated, with more buttons, dials, and switches? I just KNOW the GEQ is probably going to disappear. For recording, the more buttons, dials, and switches, the better! 'Course, I could be dead wrong on all of this.

what the hell is so complicated about the mark IV?
i mean really?
unless you're constantly drunk or stoned, anyone with half a brain can figure out how to use one in 5 minutes. especially if you have the manual.

I know... wtf? Other than the different power settings and record out level, it really isn't much different than any other amp. It took me a whole 20 minutes to find a good tone to start out with.

I do believe you have stated the problem most succinctly.
Mesa is just going to have to issue written exams before they let
any more riff-raff buy these exquisite gems of modern amplitudinalityness.
