So, I'm starting to work on a list of songs for my wedding, and need some suggestions. If anyone has some good ideas please share (and if its specific to a part of the wedding, like first dance, or garter toss, include that)

any rockin songs would be much appreciated (although i'll take some "standards" suggestions too)

Andy Timmons = Song - September

I believe he initially wrote it and played it for one of his friends weddings actually. very melodic and beautiful tune. I like to jam this one out myself :) . Some nice mixolydian goodness in this one :)

I played many wedding gigs in the 80s-90s.
"The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" by Paul Stookey.
"Longer Than" by Dan Fogelberg.
"Daddy's Little Girl" (father-daughter dance - it's a waltz)
All sappy ballads. :D

todd snider...funny sh*t that tells the truth!

 Great song that really speaks the truth for so many people. I have some friends that are so happily married (so they say but I never see them anymore :) ), and those who were happily "boyfriend and girlfriend" that end up having problems AS SOON AS THEY GET MARRIED.

Conciously I am a Realist, but subconciously i am an idealist who loves to live in the moment and would just absolutley love to find a person who really loved and respected me for the person I am, and that reciprocated their feelings back "EQUALLY"

playing music allows me to tap into that idealistic world of mine knowing i wont be emotionally damaged by some HO  !

The two closest women in my life as soon as they knew they had me emotionally preceeded to try to CHANGE ME, and didn't seem quite as interested in me anymore   . Why would anybody want to change someone they supposively love??

My first wife was jealous of my guitar, no sh!t... I would play it sitting on the couch and she would start her incessant chatter, and I would be noodling, and she would get on that 'put that thing down' kick... Some mistakes you live with, others you divorce

Second wife... Loves to go to college/pro football games, actually bought our Metallica concert tickets as a surprise for me, when I was jamming on the Single Rec at guitar center she pulled out her bank card and paid for it. She looks good on the back of my Harley. My best fan.

Unfortunately she was hit with MS. Still a wonderful person, but in a new and more challenging situation. Never gets down and keeps me from ever complaining when things are not perfect. Married life will not be perfect but you can bet your a@@ the woman getting married will remember every detail of that day, so don't screw up playing.... no pressure...

I think Butterfly Kisses is a nauseatingly sappy song that is popular at weddings. Ch2 Recto Vintage with some compression and delay should cover that...

To the OP Dmc,
seriously man I wish you the best of luck I know the last thing you probably needed to hear was me questioning this whole LOVE AND MARRIAGE thing. I was just speaking from my own experiences and "some" of my friends experiences. I hope that in your case it works out.

Hopefully she will continue to understand your need to play music :)

yeah, i've heard lots of horror stories.. and as always get abuse from the "been there done that" crowd of older guys i work with...

but anyway she's not a rocker.. i am... so if anyone knows of songs that i can get played at the wedding that arent disco, or teenie bopper music, its appreciated...

i'm thinking wonderful tonight will be on the list. thanks

(and she does understand / maybe tolerates ahahahah my joy of guitar... since i was able to order the Mk V head and cabs this close to the wedding... and i should be able to get a new guitar after the wedding woo hoo! she is a good seed)

oh yeah cause im sure we all like talking more about this.. i want a petrucci model... piezo equiped guitar.. but the neck is not my favorite... (i like the axis neck better or my wayne neck.. which is an old charvel 80's style.. probably san dimas) any other suggestions? i want a switch not a knob to select piezo and mag... so carvin is out. thanks

I was at a wedding dance several years back when it was a lot more common for a live band to play.
At this dance the band played Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" as the bride and groom slow danced.
The memory of that has stuck with me for a long time. Very cool.

"Well shes walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running round
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

When I'm sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
Its alright she says its alright
Take anything you want from me, anything
Anything.

Fly on little wing,
Yeah yeah, yeah, little wing"

Then after that I got real drunk and threw up into a pretzel bowl.
