OK after getting the tubes from George here on the board, and replacing the one that was cracked, the squealing is gone now. But another problem is happening , after playing about 5-15 minutes ( the first 5 or so minutes all is great, great volume and tone) but once it seems to get warm the volume drops out and the tone goes bland, it will go in and out. (mosrly out) but while strumming it will go in and out, I tried different guitars, no pedals , different cables nothing helps. Anyone got any suggestion to try next,

I am running a rack mount system going in this order, Recto Pre into a t.c. electronics G-Major, into a BBE 482i, and all going thru a Furman M-8L Power Conditioner, that all runs stereo out 4 OHMS into a 4 X 12 cab with G12T75 (4 OHM) wired series parallel to be 4 OHMS.... i checked the wiring in th espeaker cab adn all seems wired ok and tight, they are not soldered onto the speakers they have the metal ends that slip onto the speaker wire ear type end connectores, I tightened them all up to make sure they have good connection.

Could it be tubes getting weak going bad PRE???? or POWER ????, or the power conditioner going bad or the G-Major acting up or what else? , This is really getting me not knowing what is causing it...

HELP

WElp it seem sit my G-Major me thinks, I took everything out of th echain except th eREcto Pre adn the 2:ONE HUNDRED. I played 20 to 30 minutes and no volume drop, I added one thing in at a time and once the G-Major is back then it all goes down.....
I have the worst luck with FX pieces, at first I ordered a used $300 (+ $50 shipping) POD XT PRO , way back from musicgoround.com played it about a month and it died (no warranty on a used piece). Then I spent $65 more on it to have it checkd by 2 diff techs ( i wanted a second opinion) just to tell me it was dead that the whole main board was fried..............cost more to fix then I could buy a new one or another used one...
Then I got this $50 used G-Major form a guy in Orlando Fl., he burned me straight off cause he said it all worked great, (he just needed rent money that is why he was selling it) but when I got it, the inner most right parameter potimeter was not working . So finally I asked around here and got in contact with the parts guy from t.c. electronics and he sent me a FREE potimeter. I had to unsolder the old one and solder the new one in myself. It all seemed to be working good, until I moved everything from FL to here then it all started to screw up......

Does it matter that the FX are NOT in the FX loop? I have it going from the Preamp "outs" to the "inputs" of the G-Major, then into the BBE then lastly out of that into the inputs of the Poweramp. what diff does it make into the FX loop or just this way?

man this sucks..............anyone got a ALL WORKING G-Major for sell cheap?

Jeff

Sorry about your troubles, man. But you get what you pay for, I'm afraid.

Could be that that input and output jacks on the Gmajor could use some resoldering. If it was ever dropped with cables plugged in, or they were plugged and unplugged often, the solder joint may have cracked.

The fact that it powers up is a good sign, probably analog, not a digital problem.

It makes no difference whether it's in the loop or not. If the signal is not clipping, it's not big enough to do any damage.

Good luck!

Try creating a preset on the TC where every setting is at 0 (Zero).Remove the BBE from the chain. Start playing through the G Major. When the problem starts happening, stop playing and look at all the parameters to see if the pot is somehow changing settings or if the G Major is receiving CC messages somehow. I have 2 Triaxis and a G System that stay on the road and they sound great. Don't give up!

thanks guys, I'll try those things, isn't there someone here on this board that knows the parts guy at t.c. electronics? isn't this the place I got the e-mail contact for that guy when I first got the g-major and that parts guy sent me the free potiemeter i installed .....

Maybe I could explain to him what is happening and he may know the problem right off, it must be something gettin hot, cause the first 8-10 minutes it does great, then after it gets warm/hot something is going out (probably one of those small black voltage regulators) the tone and volume gets weak (like a short in a cable where you shake it and it goes in and out it crackles some as its doing it), but cuts in and out, more out then in tho..... I took it apart again last night to see if anyting looked burned or blackened but nothing looked bad or burned or even smelled burned.....gonna take it tomorrow to a "not so close local guitar store" and drop it off for the techy guy to check it, as he only comes in a few days a week when he wants to...hopefully he will find something..........

I know you get what you pay for, but in the case of the PODXT $300 plus shipping is alot still only one month of use that is a little high price, it should of lasted longer than that. The g-major deal I am thinking now I paid more like $150 not the $50, cause that would of went real fast for that low price, its been a while so I don't remember exactly the price, and when you aren't working currently even that much is alot......

what is CC messages? isn't there any type of diagnostic program on the g-major, that would be real nice if there was.....

CC mesages are continuous control messages. For example, this is how you change volume by Midi or how you make a wah in a rack unit. I once had an unstable potentiameter in a rack piece that would randomly change the settings of whatever parameter it was linked to. When I changed the pot, the problem was solved.

OK I took the G Major to have it checked the guy played it an hour and a half said it was fine. I bought 2 new speaker cables to go from the rack to the cab to see if one had a short in it, ( as that is what it acts like) still does it. I do however notice that when I turn the rack on the setting matrix on the g-major takes a good while it do anything like show the tuning you are in or the in/out meters, etc, could it still have something wrong with it or what. I can shake the whole rack and at times it goes in and out I got new patch cables for the back of it also... I do notice the 4 tubes I got from George glows with a blue hue in the top of them where my older ones does not, what does that mean, anything?
