Could be taste or the condition of the amp.

My MKIII has a good clean sound and R2 sounds very good if you leave Vol 1 below 5.

The lead sound is killer.

Also it does'nt seem to favor types of pickups or positions of pickups.

I'd save judgement of the amp until you find one in good working order.

Than again you still might not like it. :D

Yea, the comparison to my Super is a bit unfair. The super has new caps and is a bit modified to be a real players amp. Plus there are the alnico speakers...

The comparison to the Bassman, however, seems quite fair. The Bassman still has the original 40 yr old paper caps in her and all her original pre-amp tubes to boot. Only the output tubes are new. Plus she has silicone diodes like the Boogie. I wouldn't think the Caps should be too bad in the Boogie. They are quality electrolytics and only 17 yrs old.

I will probably try the MK III again if the shop owner elects to get it working altogether. If so, I'll post the results. Right now my pedal board includes an A/B to go between the Super and Bassman ... it could indeed be cool for that to be Super and Boogie...

BTW: the MK III was a blue stripe dated 1988 inside. Initialled all over the place, too. I guess maybe they all were back then.
