So I just brought home a V:35 combo (still going back and forth on combo vs head/cab as I try to keep weight of individual pieces as low as possible) and dig the tones. I'm a long-time Boogie player, going back to the 80's and a variety of Studio 22s and Mark 3s.

So I ran my pedal board through the effect loop - which I rarely do. I have to admit I'm primarily a bass player these days, but my pedal board does double duty. I have a Ditto as the last pedal in the chain so I can mute with my tuner and swap instruments if need be. And I found that the amp master doesn't control the volume of what is in the effects loop. I would have though that the master is post-loop but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Or was it all a dream?

yes good delusion you had going there & don't know where you got it from.
Some old parrallel loops have separate wet & dry dials but not series loops.
Series loop are much better and I wouldn't want a master volume control on a series loop anyway

So after RTFM, I get it - the "master" is at the end of the preamp chain and not post efx loop. So the power tubes get whatever the efx loop sends them with no on-amp attenuation. I can make that work, just have to think different...

Great post though. I never thought of using a looper for switching instruments!

I have a different question regarding the effects loop. This is my first post and I didn't want to start a second effects-loop thread, so hopefully I'll get some responses in here.

Some background...I went from a Fender Twin to a Fender Blues Jr. (moved from my parents house into an apartment), then bought a V:35. I am completely in love with this amp. It is everything I wanted the Blues Jr. to be and more.

I bought a Strymon Flint (because I'll be honest, I miss the reverb and trem of the Fender Twin), so with the Flint I can have that sound back with the amazing Mesa Boogie tone. Would I put the Strymon Flint in the effects loop? I would like the reverb to come after the distortion/drive from channel 2.

Another question. I have an RC-3 Looper. I want to be able to have the RC-3 Looper run after channel 2. Currently, the RC-3 looper is at the end of all my pedals (obviously) right before the direct into the amp. Therefore, when I switch to channel two the entire loop becomes distorted. Will placing the RC-3 Looper in the effects loop remedy this situation so that I can keep the loop clean and be able to solo over it with channel 2?

I've also read that the effects loop can be temperamental. Will having the Boss RC-3 Looper degrade the sound?

Reverb works well in the loop, after the distortion. But you could try it up front, you might find something you like. The looper will do what you're wanting it to do in the loop also. I don't own a v35 but I can get ok results with my other mark amps with the looper in the loop. I have some problems with my JP2C when switching channels because the volume of the looper will also change, so it takes some adjusting. I also think it sounds a little better in front. But my mark V's loop is a little more friendly with the looper, so give it a try and see what you think.
