I'm so glad I saw this post. So... unlike many on this board, I don't play a tremendous amount of metal. I'm looking for something really versatile. The band that I play in, plays everything from funk/hip-hop, to pop/top-40, to punk-ish, rock/hard rock, with the occasional metal-ish type thing (chevelle, RATM, Linkin Park, etc). Nothing hard-core/death/etc).

So far, it seems like the Mark V will fit the bill. Am I right or should I be looking at something else?

YES!
It takes a while to learn how to dial it all in, but it's all there. You may not want to be switching modes in a live situation because you have readjust the eq, but with three channels, you can cover alot of territory with this amp. Channel 3 does great as a lead/chunky rhythm, as well as high gain.

I'm in a similar boat!

The Mark V is so cool.....three channels to create three different sounds for different type music in one night's worth of work!

I sometimes use my Mark IV for the type of music you mentioned, once in a while, I break out the triaxis, but the darned thing is heavy along with the 290 amp. Then have to bring a midi foot controller for the whole rig and a speaker cab. After the gig, always looked forward to breaking down, loading all that gear in my vehicle, then unload when I get home...
