I just discovered that I really like the sound of the STR-425s that came in the 6L6 sockets of my new green stripe, more than 6L6GCs.

Should I be able to give some Tung-Sol reissue 5881s a shot without any issues?

I am guessing that the voltage is probably a little higher than the 5881s like, and I will have tube life issues, but they sound sooooo good.

The STR-425's are closer to a 6L6GC than they are to a true 5881.The Tung-sol RI's are made by Sovtek as are the 425's,but I am not sure if they are rated for the higher specs like the 425's.They claim to be a 5881 re-issue,which they cant be because you cant re-issue what you didnt issue to begin with, but anyway,if they actually have the same ratings as a true 5881,I wouldnt use them in that amp.See the post titled "what does burned glass mean" to see what happens to a 5881 in a Boogie.
