a footswitch makes a connection to engage the modern/deep/halfdrive...can you use a TS or TRS plug somehow hard-wired "shut" to just plug in back there to keep the modes always engaged? Thinking like a cut off plug of a guitar cable with the leads just wired together? I'm not an electronics guy but i figured all a footswitch would do is open or close the circuit...
 
Yes, you are correct.

You can use a 1/4 inch plug wired 'shut' as you say....just closes the circuit.

I use one of my Mesa Mark III footswitches, on/off...and that works fine too.
