Was the "official Boogie rep" some guy taking a leak in the alley by any chance?

No, actually not.
There is one exclusive Boogie dealer here in Israel and as far as I know he is running the business under Boogie UK office so I assume the answer arrived from there.
I'm tired of all this v1, v2, with or without FAT or SHMAT.
I'll try to get a v2 no FAT and that’s it.

V2 with the recto board without the fat mod, you mean. And that's a solid choice so you can't go wrong. I've had with and without the fat mod and without is the only way to go. Mesa had it right the first time.

trippy - I also think it's a good choice. Wait 'till you blast that Lead 1 RED through a 4x12, man you're gonna need new pants for sure 8)

Not trying to derail the thread but

The current TriAxis has the Phat Mod in there, but not the TX4 PCB (which was the "Rectifier" board).

What the hell? I thought the fat mod was performed on that PCB?

It was. The "official rep" was just winging some made up answer. None of what he said is right, most notably misspelling "fat," something Mesa themselves never do.

I've turned the corner to the good on the Phat Mod. But, if you bought a Tri (2.0) for the Recto sounds, then you might as well have just bought the Recto Pre. The Phat Mod is just that; it sounds and feels Phat. It's the Recto's Vintage Orange channel; which is like a Vintage Marshall sound. I dial mine in for a Vintage mid gain tones for classic type tones for which it was intended I'm sure.

The Recto has a ton of gain, more then the Mark preamps. So, if the Recto is your tone, then the Marks will sound dry, stale and lacking in gain in comparison. That's a funny thing tho, because in the early 80's when the Mark amps came out, they were the super high gain sounds of the day. Technology marches on I guess...

I think that gain has reached it's limit tho as far as usable tones are concerned. A truck loud of gain covers up the sound of your instrument. Plus, there comes a point where you need to actually play the guitar, and not rely on gain to carry your notes thru.

The TriAxis is the precursor of the Mark V as far as different tones in 1 box is concerned. But. it's still more versatile, because you can't beat MIDI programability. I almost sold my Tri/2:90 rig, to get a V, but I would lose more then what I'd gain IMO.

I bought the TA for the Mark sounds and the Recto mode to me is just an added benefit of having an approximation of another Mesa tone. Hell that mode sounds gainy with Gain and Lead Drive on 6 and 5.5
