I searched the board and couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm having troubles dialing in a good tone on my 2 channel duel recto. I'm trying to get close to the tool Aenima album. Any suggestions, red, clean channel?

Aenima is weird. He got the VH4 during that album. I don't know if you'll be able to nail it with just one amp.

Guitar/pups do make a huge difference +1 for LP/with SD JB bridge.

I can suggest red channel (normal mode in back), cranking the LAM (if you use this as a MASTER VOLUME?) to about 11:30, back off the gain, @ 1- 1:30 and Channel master @10:30.
presence noon-ish, bass 1:00, mid 11:00, treble 12:30.

Also, if you do have the loop engaged on orange and red, try this...

if you have a parallel loop (no efx running through) make sure the return level is at 0%. there's a noticable drop in tone when it's up at 100% when you're not using efx. check it out.

if serial loop...wide open.

Should be able to get really close to that tone but again he used multiple rigs/overdubs to achieve his sound.

The thing I find with Adam Jones playing is his style. The way he pulls off and hammers on and the way he throws in extra notes kind of on the fly.

I've found that it kind of messes me up for other drop d stuff.

I know his amps, guitars, pedals, and pups are all part of his tone, but still think this is another aspect of it.

Aenima does sound weird. I thought he switched to Diezel at Lateralus but I could be wrong. He doesn't like to talk about his gear, so I've heard all kinds of different things.

I've doodled with the red channel and came up with a sound I like. Please listen and tell me how it sounds. I'm not comparing it to tool its just want I dialed in and thought it sounded decent.

there's too much of something...treble perhaps? Or you're not playing loud enough. There's just something off with the sound.

What are the settings like? What guitar are you using?
